    Electric Cool boxes

They are ok, used to use one for weekends on boat. They do use a lot of power hence only really able to use when plugged in or with engine. They do not keep things cool for long when switched off - not as good as a freezerbag with icepacks.

    Fuel Consumption

About 3 litres per hour average.

    First sailing boat

Surely the ideal boat is one of these Magnum 21! Can't capsize and 20 knots under sail. Can motor as well. (No connection just interested in one myself.)

    Lake Yard mooring, Poole anyone?

Yes we have a shared Westerly moored there - I previously had my own boat there for a couple of years as well. Works well with the taxi - Pete is a good bloke and very reliable . You can call him up on mobile or VHF from boat. You can get water by mooring on the outside of the breakwater (when...

    A Practical Yacht

Try a Dufour 34 - I think it covers most of your wish list. Haven't sailed one personally but gets good reviews.

Boat share - good or bad?

I found an established group through Yachtfractions, who normally have quite a few boats on their website. They also handle the agreement for the sale, but we have our own more detailed one as well. Obviously, have a sail and meet the others in the group to see if you get on. I sail as much...

Boat share - good or bad?

I would say that it is better to share with non-friends unless you are sure that things will work, otherwise you will be tempted to put up with irritations for the sake of your friendship. I am in a group of 4 and it works well. None of us knew each other previously. Have got a formal...

    Volvo Speedseal

I assume you are talking about the shaft seal. You can get a tube of Volvo grease for the purpose - squeeze in 1cc under the lip of the seal. They recommend once per year or every 100 hours. To burp the seal, just squeeze lip between fingers when afloat. You will hear air come out and get a...

    Throttle/Gear Control

Many thanks for all replies - yes it is a Volvo 2002 installation. The neutral button is small diameter and coppery in colour. I will have a good look to see if there is any plastic covering in the way, although the button does now seem to go in and out fully as it did before. Laurence <hr...

    Throttle/Gear Control

OK - boring tecnhnical post! Has anyone had problems with the neutral button on their engine control lever. Although ours can still be operated, it does not disengage the gear cable so that it is impossible to start in neutral with any revs on. It is still possible to get neutral with the lever...

1gm Yanmar lack of power Help

I have had a similar problem develop with the same engine on my boat. I believe that my problem is fouling on the keels and/or prop as they have not been cleaned for 6 months. Mine revs freely in reverse without any smoke or fuel from the exhaust, but in forward gear I assume that the engine...
