Volvo Penta IPS 500 Steering failure

Hi, this thread is so old. Accidentally came across my own old thread. It seems I fixed my problem myself. The multipin electrical connector to the top of the IPS never seemed quite right. I disconnected it and with a baby screwdriver I very slightly bent all the pins and then re-connected it...

    TAMD41B Workshop Manual

Thank you Mr Googler. Also found a D6 manual in that dropbox. Although not exactly for my 370's d-b. Still very helpful.

    D6 Workshop manual ?

Hi Everyone, Looking for help again. I've had to get my turbos rebuilt. I was advised to strip and rebuild the heat exchangers while I'm at it. I'm in the process of doing this now. I'm doing this work myself. I'm pretty good with mechanical stuff (Apprenticed industrial refrigeration engineer...

Volvo Penta D6 Starter motor relay. HELP !

All the truck relays I could find were 24v. Eventually paid £115+vat for one from Coastal Rides. Still a rip off but cheaper than direct from VP

Volvo Penta IPS 500 Steering failure

Hi everyone, This is an old post now. I don't come here much. Too busy working on boat. Just an update. I may have fixed my IPS 'limited steering, limited RPM' problem. There is a small electrical connector on top of the IPS drive. It felt a bit too easy to plug in so I got a tiny screw driver...

Volvo Penta D6 Starter motor relay. HELP !

Hi boating people, Haven't been here for ages. In fact I sold Petrolia 3 years ago and then 2 years ago accidentally bought a Rodman 41 called Kiwi. I have broken a piece off one of the starter motor relays. P/N 3818845. Volvo want =/- £380 !!!!!!! That's for the relay. Not the whole starter...

    Rodman 41with IPS.

Hi Oldgit. We're you delivering the boat ? I have a Rodman 41 with IPS and it doesn't get 20+ knots at 2500rpm. More like 2750rpm to get 20+ knots. Also shouldn't it do at least 3500rpm on WOT ? If it got only 3000 & 3200rpm then something is wrong so even more surprising it achieved 20+ knots...

Volvo Penta IPS 500 Steering failure

Hi again, Thanks for all your imputs. I bought the boat from a private seller through Why Boats acting as broker. The steering error we now see didn't show up on the sea trial but I suspect the seller knew there was an issue. I've now had further input from Volvo and an independent ex Volvo...

Volvo Penta IPS 500 Steering failure

Our problem occurs whether we use upper or lower helm so I don't think our issue is a problem with the helm itself. From your photo looks like your sportboat only has one helm. Pretty sad that Volvo can't pinpoint the problems. Just want to systematically change things out until they find it. I...

Hi there, Sold our Nimbus Nova 42 Petrolia last March and then recently accidentally bought a Rodman 41 ! Despite survey & sea trial it is proving a money pit already. It has VP IPS 500 engines /drive Main current problem I'm hoping someone can help with is the EVC repeatedly reporting...

    Petrolia sold

Hello Kawasaki ! I mean't that the Rodman 970 was probably a better sea boat than my Ex bigger Nimbus 42. Funny you were looking at a Nova 42 in Holland because that's where Petrolia went. She was bought by a Dutch Dealer & taken to Holland. Maybe it was Petrolia you were looking at ? I have...
