Hi,
Haven't been here for years. Too busy boating I guess !
Now retired I decided our Nimbus Nova 42 was too expensive to own & use so we sold her last March.
Now I'm bored and want another boat ! Boo hoo.

With the Nimbus I felt compelled to have three proper holiday a year to justify ownership.
Of course this just added to the ownership costs considerably !
I figured we were spending over £20k per year !

Now I want a boat just for fishing & weekends aboard.
It will still cost to own but I won't feel obliged to have the big holidays
I can't find anything better than a Rodman 970.

Anyone got one ?
I believe they are great sea boats.
Probably better than the bigger Nimbus ?

Thanks for any opinions

Well well, welcome 'Home' as it were!
I followed your expeditions and reports with much interest on Petrolia
When you were enjoying Her through Europe and the UK , i had an old (1984) Nimbus 27
Last September at the Southampton boat show whilst visiting the Nimbus stand I mentioned you and your boat and we talked about you behind your back!!
All good stuff by the way!
Prior to that conversation a Friend and I had been looking at purchasing a Nova 42
We had sea trialed one in Holland
To your question however
Well, your last comment
'Probably better than the bigger Nimbus'?
Presume you mean the 380 commander
Having tried both last year I am not too sure
Having sampled a Botnia Targa I know which is a better sea boat thats for sure
A 37 would do us fine but heck there are like Unicorns second hand and command a serious Price
During last year in the search for 'The Perfect boat' (Yes I know said vessel has not been made yet) travels took us to Scotland, Holland, France and all sorts of Places in the UK
Anyway the reason I am not sure ref the seaworthiness vis a vi the Rodman v Nimbus
Both 'trials' we had were on a flat sea
So sorry, no help there!
We actually made a Bid on a Nova 42 it did seem to fit the Bill at the time
Negotiations went a bit awry so the Deal did not happen
So
Our search goes on
Looking at a French mark this weekend and weather permitting a sea trial
It would appear we have a similar mission to you Sir
I will report back!!
:encouragement:

Hello Kawasaki !
I mean't that the Rodman 970 was probably a better sea boat than my Ex bigger Nimbus 42.

Funny you were looking at a Nova 42 in Holland because that's where Petrolia went. She was bought by a Dutch Dealer & taken to Holland. Maybe it was Petrolia you were looking at ?

I have viewed a couple of Rodman 970's and am fairly convinced that the boat is what I now need. I just haven't yet found the one that shouts 'buy me'. I drove all the way to Plymouth from Eastbourne to look at one but it was tatty with no history. The search continues. I agree with you regarding the Targa's and their price & lack of availability.

Happy that you enjoyed my posts from years ago !

Yes, so enjoyed those Posts and I must admit I was rather jealous
When I first cast eyes on the Nova in Holland I thought 'Bloody Hell it's Petrolia'!!
She wasn't however
Pal and I thought She would tick all our Boxes
She didn't for a couple of reasons
Boat 'hunting' can be frustrating but also a real good Gig in some respects
Pal, like all of us is looking for the perfect boat
I know, nobody has made one yet
He has the purse strings
I am just the know it all tyre kicker mate!
Its been good fun though
Scotland Holland and France have been visited
Unfortunately for two 'Taffies' we have also visited and had to pass through England as well!
Funny though, a week tomorrow we are viewing what might suit
A 'Trawler' type vessel
Right on our doorstep!
