I've just re-found Dylan, and trying to understand the Fisher situation, then searched out this thread, and there's no apology for bumping it.
I've read the whole thread, and it's good to understand the history.
I'd just like to go on the record giving Dylan a positive vote of thanks for all...
My plywood boat is copper-coated. That worked fine at Brightlingsea - a light covering of barnacles each year. At Shotley I'm getting some sort of tube worm and 2 to 3" of kelp looking weed. The lift operator says that's what he sees on copper coat, and that ordinary antifouling works well.
It...
10 years ago I started off with epoxy, protected with 2 pack polyurethane. This is impractical to patch, and seems brittle - the epoxy cracks and water gets in. I've tried Woodskin on the cabin sides, etc, but this wears really quickly, and isn't hard-wearing enough for the spars.
I want a...
Thanks for the comments - I have recently changed my chart plotter, and my new Simrad Cruise is powered by the supplied cord plugged into the 12v socket, but no usb involved, and no voltage transformation, surely.
I've got an Icom DSC radio, about 10 years old, with an aerial on the mast. In using it recently to contact both Shotley Marina on Ch80 and Brightlingsea harbour master on Ch68 it was transmitting clearly (B'sea could hear us from 4 miles out, we learnt on arrival), but it's not receiving. Is it...
1980's Mariner / Yamaha SEO engine with drippy petcock.
It's taken me quite a while to disassemble the fuel cock, rod, knob, etc,, but I have now exposed the leaky rubber seal in the middle of the petcock. I have access to a whole new, unleaky, petcock, but I can't get the old one off the...
My home berth was B'sea for 4 or 5 years, half-tide and pontoon. I will phone the harbour office.
Comments about marina silting and B&B's / air B&B still welcome.
My very small boat is now based at Shotley, the crew of 3 doesn't fancy sleeping aboard, so we're thinking of sailing down the wallet to B'sea, B&B'ing then sailing back.
Firstly, what's the marina like these days, wrt silting, 'cos we don't want to get stuck on a pontoon relying on the water...
If it ran for 15 seconds and stopped of it's own accord, and it's an external fuel tank, pump the in-line bulb some more, check fuel is arriving at the furthest point. When it stopped did it rev fast briefly before dying?
