I've never had mine serviced, it seems a very expensive thing to have done. I just replace them every few years. If you shop around they are quite cheap.
Re: Plastic
It's years since I worked in the Glass Industry, but I do remember going round the Pilkingtons site and having all this explained to me. All I can do is repeat what I was told. Maybe their technical people have got it all wrong?
I think that they stopped spinning to make flat...
Get a Folkboat, learn to sail it, learn to maintain it. Then decide if you want to tackle a bigger boat.
Why a Folkboat? Good to learn on and IMHO one of the prettiest boats ever to be put on the water. A real beauty!
Phil,
Please promise that you will not illustrate this thread with one of the many pictures which you seem to be able to find for any and every subject.
On second thoughts, perhaps it was a mistake to write this.........
Yes they are, but the original poster said that both batteries in his installation are car batteries.
In any event I don't think that Leisure batteries are very different from car/cranking batteries. They are certainly not deep cycle batteries, even though many peeps describe them as such. FWIW...

I hope that you would ensure the boat was safe first! .
Apart from that I agree entirely with what you have said.
The "little explosion" was probably a simple backfire, and unlikely to do any harm though it may have damaged the recoil mechanism. It's more likely that you think something is different, because you are looking for it, but that no harm has been done! In any event, you won't find out until...
Re: Plastic
Glass is a "super cooled liquid" and, yes, it does get thicker at the bottom.
FWIW Toughened glass is better at taking a bend than ordinary annealed glass.
If you search the forum you'll find this has come up several times.
I don't think that anyone has been able to report how they handled a claim, but several have warned against them.
Check the plug/s, check the fuel, then try again.
If it doesn't start after a few pulls, switch the choke "off", throttle on "full" and try again.
It will probably be OK on it's side, but the handbook will tell you about storing it. (Some engines don't like it)
If you had fuel inside the...
Nostalgic sentimentality!
The things are fun, but also expensive and dangerous. If they are likely to injure lifeboat crew it's irresponsible to keep them. Modern technology has also made them redundant. Time to move on.
