    A-Flags

[ QUOTE ] I did ask earlier, but no response - how far should we be aiming to keep clear by? [/ QUOTE ] I guess it depends on the circumstances but I think the main problem is one alluded to earlier - there seems to be a style of sailing that means a boat will aim directly at a stationery...

    A-Flags

Don't worry Brendan, you've well and truly put me in my place. Bye.

    A-Flags

Thankyou wooslehunter. 'Restricted in its ability to manouver' is also a bit of a misnomer if you're following a marker buoy (or several).

    A-Flags

I agree, but the flag has to be proportional to the boat and yes they're not always easy to spot because of wind direction. The boat I was on today had two and it took much waving, shouting and horn blasting to warn off the only boat for several miles. Maybe he was below making a cup of tea.

    A-Flags

Now I really don't want to cause any offence here as I sail as well as dive but recently I have been out on several dive boats and there are a lot of sailors out there who don't know or just don't care that a blue/white A-flag means there are divers in the water. The sea is a big place, is it...

    Deck Covering & cabin sides

Probably a silly question but could you do this over a deck that has already been glass matted?

    Selling a boat

Thanks chaps, its nice to know I am not alone. To be honest, finding her a good home is more important than the money. I am just annoyed that I have wasted 6 weeks yard fees and she has dried out to such an extent that I am going to have to pump her out for a good few hours.

    Selling a boat

Not an ad, just a rant and asking for advice! My lovely old boat has been up for sale for a few months and all I have had is nutters, fantasists and out and out scammers. The paid for adsites have been hopeless (but the free ones excellent!) and having wasted six weeks of my time on a 'buyer'...

    Yanmar 10gm

Clean (or replace) the alarm sender unit as it'll be covered in crud. This worked on mine. (And the thermostat too).

Does My Boat Have Ferrous Fastenings?

Thanks for all the input. The survey I have makes no mention (apart from 'no fastenings were inspected . . .'), she is strip planked (I think, carvel with no splines or caulking between planks, is that right?), I have a couple of rust dribbles at the stem but obviusly there is also a load of...

Does My Boat Have Ferrous Fastenings?

I am selling my 1960s East German Folkboat and I am being asked all sorts of questions about her. I have been asked about the fastenings and don't know what they are - is it possible they're ferrous? If they are, what should I do about it? Obviously ferrous seems like a bad idea but, then...

    maintaining varnished mast

Re: Results of my mast varnish experiment Plum, sounds interesting - was the 'old' varnish polyvarnish or is it irrelevant what you go over? <hr width=100% size=1>

    CB varnish test April 04

I have by the looks of it, Hydrosol in post as I speak (hopefully) after reading the same article. Is it usuable all over? I am thinking of doghouse, toerail and maybe wooden mast and the hatch cover edging when the carefully applied Endeavour wears off (it did smell nice though). <hr...
