I've blagged myself onto a corporate Team Bonding sail.
Yacht is RonaII an Oyster 68, trip is:
Day 1 Hamble - Yarmouth/Portsmouth then across the channel
Day 2 Cherbourge or Honfleur for some team building (deep joy) Hopefully a race is mentioned.
Day 3 Alderney over night (maybe a beer)
Day 4...
I use Towergate:

Had a few claims over the years all very quickly and efficiently sorted out.
This looks exactly like the kind of thing we need, the requirement is for wind speed & direction but the rest is a bonus. thunder detection would be a significant bonus as we're dealing with rocket motors & rely on Met office 40miles away for thunder warnings.
Budget isn't a big deciding...
I need to install a met station on one of our building in work, most important is wind speed & direction.
I'm thinking the kind of thing that most of us would mount on top of a mast would be the easiest, most weather proof & most cost effective method.
Any recomendations appreciated as we...
Hoping to be racing a 420 at New Quay, West Wales on Sunday with my daughter (13). We've raced in the snow before, forecast didn't look too bad but big sea might still be running. My thanks always goes to volunteers willing to sit in safety / committee boats freezing their bits off on days like...
I race an F18 Cat so get wet a lot. I don't like dry suits but some swear by them (not at them) I wear a wetsuit with spray top over it to keep wind off (in cold weather). Gloves are a must unless you want shreaded hands. Tight fitting wetsuit boots (with hotsocks for winter) Shock Sailing...
This year I bought a harness from Shock Sailing

Amazing how comfortable and simple it is. I'm just about to spend a day replacing all 4 trap wires on our F18 for 3mm dyneema.
I used to own and race a Hobie 18, built like a brick outhouse and impossible to sink even once the hulls delaminate and get seriously floppy when you power it up.
Nope, I've never sailed a Laser and never want to, hateful boat in my opinion.
Terrible rig with little or no control (I'm told that the XD kit helps a bit but at over £200 for a block and some string)
Terrible hull, everyone I know who's sailed one says it's uncomfortable.
Prone to death...
Can I ask why you don't like a 420?
Among several other boats I have a 420 which I sail with my kids, it's a great wee boat which is light and easy to control, quite forgiving and has all the toys to learn and play with. Spinny, trapeze. This video shows just how much fun it can be in a blow.
