What I'd like to know is why the IMOCAs were delayed but the 40s and Ultimes set sail??
Surely the IMOCAs are designed for ALL conditions around the world???
To everyone saying "crash tack" or "immediately heave to".... this is a good plan, but what about if you're downwind sailing? What if the spinnaker or cruising chute is up?

Its very small, but is there... (unless boat has been modified/repaired). Port aft quarter, on the hull, below the aft fairlead.
It will say (for example) "30/88" which means hull number 30, moulded in 1988.

I keep reading posts on here about toxicity of anti fouling and how proper PPE is essential. This is great information and has been around for quite some time now.
But I was just wondering, how worried should I be? I remember anti fouling in the 1990s and not using PPE, just "old clothes"...
Funny you say that.... a close friend of mine did Yachtmaster (would now be called Yachtmaster Offshore) about 20 years ago and there was no wind for the whole assessment time so they literally never turned the engine off while underway! The whole thing was performed under motor! He still...

I understand that, but in that case why do British residents not all register their boats in Guernsey/Jersey/Cayman Islands and then they won't have to pay VAT.....?
Genuine question, but I see many boats seemingly "permanently" based in UK, but registered in Guernsey, for example the racing yacht in the third picture here:
