3 strand "S" lay i've found easiest. but i always wrap the strands and cut back. "Z" lay gives me the hump probably as i'm right handed.

did this job on my sunseeker with balsa core. I cut it out from the inside, all of it, the whole deckhead..used an electric disc cutter and a decent mask/goggles and a suit. that dust will get everywhere! then replaced the balsa core with closed cell polyurethane sheet...
Had lots of these motors. yours should have a plastic "pull to choke" button through the panel, it's a square shaft that goes through your panel and goes onto the metal lever. the socket is from the lighting coil, if it was electric start (as some of these were) it may or may not be rectified to...
there's no such thing as the wrong time of year. some of my favourite boating is done in the autumn/winter.
got some interesting projects, including the kingswift in the workshop this winter. im ditching the inboards and fitting a 150 mercury outboard. got lots of old stuff too!
Thats the sort of thing i was looking for. couldn't find a pic to show the chap, but did consider cutting out a splashwell, if only to reduce the overall length.

one of my customers has just bought one. the engine and outdrive has been removed and his plans are to fill the hole and use an outboard.
question is, what size outboard?????????
he's planning on using it on canal and inland waterways, something i have no experience with...
