Tools needed for dropping rudder Dufour 38 (or similar)

Reason for dropping and changing rudder bearing is stiffness, VERY! I have checked everything else and it just leaves the bearings, well bottom one at least. Possible causes are corrosion of the bearing housing putting pressure on the bearing and same on rudder shaft. The elements are all alloy...

Tools needed for dropping rudder Dufour 38 (or similar)

Oh, and there I was hoping for helpful replies!! The boat will be on tarmac so no holes to be dug just the boat raised up. Anyway it looks like there is a collar with screws through that jam on the stock. At least that what most others have. Anyone know different?

Did not buy this months PBO

Just stopped my subs for PBO. Sticking with YM for a bit longer. Over the years everything gets recycled! Agree with comments on PBO (or the stick and string mag as m,y wife calls it!) Mind you she calls YM the doom and gloom mag as it is always running stories of disaster and mishaps at sea...

    Rope clutch slipping - Reasons?

Trying to firm up the luff on the genoa on my newly acquired Fulmar. Winch it nice and tight, let the halyard off the winch and it slips back thru the clutch. Same on the main halyad. This leaves me with a saggy main and genoa luff. Is it the clutch or the rope? The halyards slip back to a...

    T-Cut to clean gelcoat ???

If you want to do a proper job on your gelcoat use 3M product Finesse II It is an excellent product used by many pro polishers. I've used it after Fastcut first. Finish with 3Ms Marine Ultrawax. Trouble is you'll need an electric low speed polisher and lambswool bonnets.

Volvo Penta 2002 18hp slow starting

I know this is an age old problem but I ca't remeber old answers... My 2002 starts from warm fine. From cold it seems to take an age and turns over, I think, too slowly. Batteries are fully charged. I assumed a fully charged batt would turn it over much quicker and therefore start it more...

    Westerly Fulmar anchoring and chain

Just aquired said Fulmar. It has 25m of VERY rusty chain. Will the anchor locker take 50m of new chain or is this too heavy? Also, whats the answer to feeding the chain back down the aft facing pipe/tube (hawse?), its a pain? Anyone fitted an electric windlass to a fulmar? Is it possible to make...

Self tailing winches on a Fulmar?

Daft question because I should have checked.... Thinking of buying an old Fulmar with the original genoa winches. Which size self tailers would I need to buy to replace them with? Lewmar 40s are £500 each! Do I need that size?
