Does anyone know if there are drink sailing laws in France? Or Spain for that matter? I know there are in Holland and Belgium, as well as USA and Australia.
Good deduction there. Graham is indeed Grant's brother and if I had a) lost my rudder b) been taken badly ill c) had my boat broken into and all electronics stolen d) had my keel bulb fall off and e) had my autopilot blow up, all whilst trying to race solo around the world I'd have a pretty good...
JJ, I volunteered to give a speech at the mayor's reception in one Triangle stopover - in Breton accented French. I had it translated then written out phonetically. I hadn't a clue what I was saying but the French seemed to appreciate it.
JJ, good on your two hulls. I was that way in early June - nearly 20 years since I was in Treguier, 30+ since Lezardrieux. Had a great sail. Recommend the 'Hangar' restaurant right at the head of the pontoons in Treguier for seafood and re-visit the Cathedral cloisters and recall THAT speech...

Jerry,
It must be a different Andrew Bray. I did not dream up nor condone NARCS nor did I sail on the ARC while Editor of YM.
I have twice since then on YW and it's a great event. The 'freeloaders' that the organisers are annoyed by are those who deliberately leave with the fleet, use the...
Re: Polyestermite -- Bill Beauvis
Bill Beavis invented the polyestermite when he worked on the (now defunct) Yachting and Boating Weekly and its existence continued through the pages of Yachting Monthly. Another good YM one was Des Sleightholme's water ballasted anchor.

Re: Consulting? Who should be exempt from booze la
Maybe this point has already been made but in many places around the UK coast drink sail laws are already effectively in force via local bye laws where, in the event of an incident or accident the person in charge of a boat can be prosecuted if...
