It's not a boat I know much about but isn't the little one an Illusion? They used to race them on a reservoir I once sailed. The skipper/navigator/sail trimmer/deck hand lies down and pretends to be a 12-metre.

Sorry, I've no idea. When I'm next down on my son's boat and I see the mobo owner I'll ask.

From what I remember when someone I knew sailed one, they can sink if capsized. Luckily, the reservoir was shallow.

Or the little ship could be a 2.4, very similar to an Illusion. When I tore my Achilles’ tendon I raced a 2.4 for 3 months or so. Very sensitive little yacht but you really needed “wing mirrors” to see who was making such a bow wave racket behind you and if there was any chop you had to pump like billy-oh. That was difficult if you were using the joystick steering!

Out of proportion IMHO. Stern overhang too long, bow snubbed, and not enough spring in the sheerline. You need Alfred Mylne to see how it should be done.

The Spirit is pretty nasty down below too.

Yes there is -I have sailed one a good few years ago on a non competitive basis.quite an interesting idea/helming position but don’t know if I would ever want one Saw them in Jan this year though but don’t know how they behave if over canvassed.

If you are interested in Spirits then do look at Nazgul posts-sometimes seen off Italy Sardinia and lovely boat if you have professional crew to upkeep.

Typical journalists not doing any research beforehand - they mention that the Spirit yacht is the largest to have been built in the UK since the 1930's (I suppose they are thinking of the J class yachts built then).
But Mirabella V was built by Vosper Thorneycroft in 2004 and she is MUCH bigger.

I believe it is poor reporting. The original local report stated that she is the largest wooden sailing yacht built since the 1930s which is probably correct, Mirabella is probably GRP?
