I am off 1st thing in the morning over to Bruges. Never been before going through Zeebrugge end through lock and about 10km through the canal. Meeting another forumite and three other boats who are leaving today. Any tips etc etc from anyone with experience of this area and canal system would be greatly appreciated.I am goung through this way as opposed to Niewport because the bridges are very low compared to Zeebrugge end. Any special Docs. required ,canal tolls etc.

We went to Brussels last year via Brugges and Gent but went in via N'port. Sure the bridges are low, but they all open!! And very efficiently - a man in a van follows you down the canal and is in the process of raising the bridge by the time you get to it. What service. Yes , you do need a licence, purchased at your point of entry so you need all the normal ships papers. Can't remember the cost but wasn't excessive. And you need to do the Schengen bit.

Sorry- can't remember and I've lent relevant papers to someone else who is planning the trip. But well under a day, perhaps half a day, at canal speeds.
There is one fixed bridge on the Plassendale to N'port canal at the Plassendale end but our flybridge Birchwood went under it easily with both of us sat up there. No need even to duck!!
Lock-keepers at N'port are very helpful. Have a good trip.
