YouTube s/v Delos - your opions

I have watched the channel on and off over the years. I find them genuinely nice people who care and help others. They are also pretty clever people with a vast amount of knowledge in different subject matter. Other similar channels may also do so and some seem to not do so but be rather grabbing.
Delos is building a fantastic aluminium catamaran now I notice. I know watching others sail is not everyone’s cup of ☕️ tea, so feel free to ignore.
QUESTION is, what is your opinion of them, their process, their lives, their way of making money? I am interested in the social experiment or at least the views of others on this couple ….. triple ….. they now have a baby

Well I like them compared to others. Videos can be a bit long though. This video said they still own Delos 1. They must be very rich now. Certainly different videos from the first mad ones they made 14 years ago.
 
No longer a regular watcher, I occasionally dip in. Enjoyed their videos from the Pacific and Indian oceans. It was never really the same after Brady left.

Nice couple, living their dream. I think what they do (and the same thought about others, is really interesting and quite brave to move out of regular work and commit to such a life. I have no idea if they have independent finances or if this is their sole income, but clearly it takes effort, mental. physical and emotional to share your life on you tube, generate content and interest sufficient people to generate income; I don't think that is easy to do. Is it a social experiment? I think it is regular work, folks have been living outside traditional regular work patterns and raising a family et cetera for ever, so this is not really any different, just exploiting modern technology for income.

Completely agree. It's a job, and one that takes skill and a certain natural talent. I don't follow Delos, but do follow several others. I imagine it's a bit like being a rock star - we all wanted to do it, a few tried, even fewer made a living out of it. I couldn't, any more than I could be a rock star but, for those that can, good luck to 'em. If I like them, I'll watch, if I don't, I won't. I suspect the harrumphers are only jealous, whether they realise it or not.
 
I very rarely watch YouTube sailing videos. It's a dull Sunday morning so I clicked on the OP link. I managed 19 seconds. There's only one chance to make a first impression and my first impression of their opening was dire. Not my cup of tea but if it floats 'ur boat, good luck.
 
I follow them on and off and usually watch on You tube with plenty of fast forwarding. I enjoy the technical stuff, locations and build process with the new catamaran, but don't watch the lifestyle and AG1 stuff!

He needs to clip on when using auto helm and what looks like solo sailing. Fiddling with boom end on the side deck was bait risk. His choice of course, his style of sailing.

I have watched them for years, like their content. It was better with the bro on board. I used to watch quite a few others, they dropped off though, once you’ve seen the San Blas a few times it gets a bit monotonous. The other one I watch religiously is Parlay Revival. The best of the lot imho. Vagabonde? No thanks, The girl just irritates me with her whiney woke take on life!
 
We have watched them from the start. Very different then as they had lots of volunteer crew, usually bikini clad beauties.
Nice couple but since their daughter has come along I think they are taking a different route, but still need to generate income. Building D2 has given them a base for a few years. Same as RAN sailing. Kids change everything.
The daughter needs stability and her friends, I guess they realise this. I don't know what the future holds for them.
Heads up to the excellent guys building D2 in Australia, first class outfit.
 
Delos 2 does look like it will be an amazing boat. Their video where they went through all the things they liked about Delos 1, and the things they wanted to change, was really good.
I hope it works out better than the Wynns, who gave now given up on their brand new HH cat after months of trying to tackle electrolysis and other problems.

My biggest problem with the sailing YouTubers is that the standard format has become a weekly video, whether or not there is anything interesting to say. It's like a soap opera. But I suppose that's what you need to do to keep subscribers and patrons interested.

Yes I agree it would be better if the waited till they have something to say. Ironically I also think some would be better split into two shorter videos as they often seem to drag on a bit. But the length and frequency of the videos is driven by the YouTube algorithm so they can maximise the monetisation. For the big channels filming that, editing it etc is a big undertaking.
 
My wife and I used to love watching them back in the day when they had different crew come and go, Elizabeth was my fave she was hilarious to watch. There was a season where Brady and Blue took over, lost interest then and never went back. Watch the odd episode now but what they are doing has no interest to me really.
Side note - I met Alex from 'Alex Goes Sailing' yesterday. What a top bloke, really nice and down to earth. He's got some big plans and will be one to watch for the future!

Brian has a software consultancy firm in Seattle where he still works. They do make enough from YouTube now but it’s not a career that you can start without existing funds (or living with parents). Especially a boating channel which pays relatively poorly compared to other content.
 
Only watched a couple of Delos, much of a muchness as YT sailing goes.
If you want something different from San Blas try Alluring Arctic. Two Finns on a 45' aluminium yacht who have just spent winter (intentionally) frozen in the ice off the west coast of Greenland after completing the NW passage last season.
