Your best boat

Ok not a Sunseeker or a Princess or a Mangusto or a Azimut Grande or a Fleur De Lys President
Had two days on a Corvette 32 and oh my what a great little ship I want one
Tim

'Great Minds' and all that Tim
Crawled all over one some years ago at a boat show
Couldn't believe the Tardis element in said vessel
Never been afloat on one but have read all about them and their history
Looked at them on pontoons and drooled
Watched 'you tube' stuff inc MBM's tests
Thought
Ooh- could single hand one
Poorly wifey would love the aft cabin and great sidedecks
Good reports ref seakeeping, ok at displacement and will get a move on if needed
Did you get to try her in a chop Tim?
The boat I mean!
Cos from memory you did get to meet swmbo when we met some years ago!
:D

The original Corvette first made an appearance in the mid 70's, and I remember seeing adverts for them in MB&Y then for the princely sum of GBP 25,000 (plus VAT at 25%....) and thinking they were enormously expensive........ but there certainly is a lot of boat there for the length.
I shall have a look around - am sure I have a copy of the MB&Y report on her from then.

I love my Turbo 36 to bits, but it was a consolation prize as I was set on a Corvette 32. Problem is that for the money I paid for OB, I was looking at somewhat dog eared Corvettes.

When I get bored of OB then I will be speaking further with Karl Farrant, who I understand is the authority on these lovely boats.

Hi Rich
Amazing little boat great in the Solent chop and with such a big flare on the bow she just pushes the water out the way.
Even in a beam sea she is very planted and we easily side stepped waves and she hardly gave it a thought.
They have such a big beam to length ratio that the stability is awesome .
Down below they are a Tardis nice double bunk aft and two very generous single bunks forward both cabins ensuite with a very nice saloon in the middle.
Moving back outside the very wide side decks make moving around easy and then up to the aft coach roof which you could get a couple of sun loungers on and then up again th the fly bridge which has the nice bench seat fro three. And two smaller side seats .
Moving to the foredeck you have the forward cabin coach roof to use as a social area.
More room on this little ship than my Princess V 40
As to moving her around in marinas she is very easy we had a down tide berth on full spring ebb in the medina and she did a beautiful reverse very glide into the marina aisle then a slight nudge forward and she was in her berth followed by loads of reverse to stop her and keep her bows in as wind was blowing us off the berth .
Definitely on my list of great boats
Tim

Our favourite boat was also a Turbo 36 which we owned from about 1992 to 1995. That boat took us all over the E Channel and beyond, occasionally in some horrendous sea conditions (we didn't know any better) and never missed a beat. Great sea boat and Tardis-like interior. They don't make 'em like that any more

I'm another fan of the corvette, those wide side decks, that interesting underwater profile… trawler style but capable of proper cruising speeds (16knots) . On a very short list for our next boat.

There is one on the market at Fox Yacht sales, Ipswich called Temeraire. Been on the market for a while, but seemed OK when we looked at it in 2011, but smallish engines. Was up for £65k then, now asking £49,500. A newer one with larger engines will set you back £150-200k.

Have seen it, engines too small… not sure I have the stomach for a re-engine project, life's too short.

We found our Turbo 36 on a trip to Fowey to view another Corvette, this one was boasting almost new Yanmar 330 HP engines. Shame was it was a real disaster area. The owner was a lovely old boy, who had receipts for an amazing £80,000 spent over the prior 4-5 years, but that did not appear the case from the state of the boat - he had been thoroughly ripped off. We immediately walked right away. I was very annoyed with the broker, who had completely misrepresented the boat. Not sure what happened to that one, but if it is still for sale I would suggest avoiding.

Here is an advertisement from MB&Y from (I think) the late 80's :
