Well...

- left US job and managed a whole year off without doing any proper work at all (first time in 25 years: huzzah!!) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
- sold house, bought boat, moved family aboard
- spent 6 months cruising US East Coast from Chesapeake to Maine and back
- ran out of money, laid up boat, got back to Blighty
- got kids into school and got SWMBO out to work (first time in 8 years: huzzah!!) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
- managed to stay married to SWMBO, at least for now

Unemployed, asset rich, cash poor... but what a great year!

Single handed from Brightlingsea to Calais including F6 in the Dover Strait - just to test the new sails of course!

Made redundant - well will be at midnight tonight. 12 years worth of redundancy in the kitty unless SWMBO gets there first.

Got a new job that should allow more time for sailing - hurrah!
 
bought (new) boat in Malta
sailed her to Greece just with swhmbo in 30 - 40 knots for the last 24hrs
sold mylast share in 37.1
gave up smoking for good ( see next)
lost my Dad
had quad by- pass in Oct -- looking v good already
now looking forward to Turkey in 2007

Lost mine too early it was 19 Years ago.

2007. I suggest
1 Stuff the Uni.--- Don't get too clever it buggers up the Cash Flow.
2 Stay a bit mad, it helps!

Thanks for that. Not being maudlin or depressed, it just clobbered me over chrissy.
Your note had me sobbing like a child but have now got the proper perspective I owe you and lots of others a lot, understood all of your emotions and a big thankyou to parents.

Had open heart surgery in November to fix leaking valve. Didn't have to have a replacement. Feeling great already.

Didn't do too much sailing as I was waiting to hear from hospital.

Did manage to fit shore power, battery charger & new cooker to Rowana.

Roll on 2007 now that i'm fixed.

Got promoted Jan 06 to a job I never thought I had the skill to do.
Have had a year of doing the job - apparently well to my surprise!
Learned power point
Organised and presented first training course - was over subscribed and got fab feedback (again, much to my surprise)
Helped many kids to cope better with or overcome severe speech and language difficulties
Bought boat (s!) - see Paul's post earlier
Pasted VHF and Power boat level 2 (I know its not much, but at least its a start).
Learned to fill up 17ft Fletcher with petrol without passing out each time - promptly bought diesel - thanks Gordon and Tony!
Responded to a cry of help from an aquaintance I hardly new, moved her into our house for a week, helped her back on her feet and gained a fabby mate in the process.
Got divorced and managed to remain friends with my ex - and his new wife to be (good luck for the 5th Jan guys /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Became an Aunty for the first time (well done sis)
Lost any chance of ever having my own children, but am with a wonderful man who thinks adoption is a great idea if we ever stop spending money on boats /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have everything to look forward to. 2007 - I'm ready!
 
Sold up, gave up working, sailed the boat from Southampton to Spain, Portugal, Canaries, Cape Verdes, Barbados, Grenada, Union Island, Carriacou and currently in St. Lucia. Next stop Martinique then north to Puerto Rico via whatever islands appear on route, then down to Panama and off across the Pacific.
Only learnt to sail last year!
