Bought new boat, sailed 2294 miles in her, managed to avoid alcohol poisoning on trip with fellow reprobates to Cherbourg, managed to avoid fellow reprobates on Ostende cruise (well, in fact, they avoided us), sailed with some wonderful people, and have started planning the '07 cruising schedule...

Bad year

two carpal tunnel ops
tendonitis on left elbow
fell down a hill and knackered my left shoulder
couple of weeks later fell 20ft off a cliff, hit the ground and am still hobbling.
Knackered the eberspacher, blew up my electrics

on the plus side I caught 2 mackeral.... next year will be better

I thought that when i first thought about it <g>

Looks like I'm being dragged into the new century. I think it's about 1.5 stones... 16st to 14.5st.

Found this forum ! And learned / laughed a lot. Thanks all.
Have also decided that this is the absolute last time a do a one-woman 'Mother Theresa' for ageing in-laws / outlaws who will arrive in approx 5 minutes, and will not grasp that I've been cleaning /shopping /cooking for a week. Next year I will demand to be ranked amongst the aged, and let the next generation do it all.
Happy 2007 to all

- Failed to launch the windsurf board even once
- Failed to complete distance learning YM shore based course
- Failed to manage work related stress to an acceptable degree
- Succeeded in consuming probably a couple of hundred bottles of wine
- Succeeded in converting a 2-yr old that was terrified of the boat into one that now at least tolerates it (if attached to swmbo like limpet)
- Succeeded in not falling into the drink unintentionally
- Failed in not losing crew overboard into the drink unintentionally

All right on a more serious note SWMBO and I sailed the boat 2 handed to Ireland and back from the Solent and I'm immensely proud of her for that

Enjoyed the 'Kids Out' trip again (disadvantaged youngsters in Chichester Harbour)

Fitted new radar, new eberscratcher and finally caved in and fitted chartplotters and AIS

Survived the dreadful debauchery of fellow forumites Cherbourg

Bade farewell to our shipmate John (cook and companion for 30 years)

Overcame my aversion to dentists, well almost

Launched our fab new survey navigation system (does work count?)

Bought SBC a pint to make up for the endless stick I give him hereabouts

Had a great sail with Jimi and our other halves Halford River

Only bashed the boat once, I think? Wind shift, don't you know!

Helped sort out a close relative who was in difficulties with job, car and future

All in all a good year really with no more gel coat repairs than usual

Ran aground once. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Didn't fall in once. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Didn't sail enough. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Survived to sail again. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No' too bad on balance. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My wife's smile, whilst sailing back from Kirby Quay to our anchorage in Hamford Water aboard our 9ft varnished lugsail dinghy with our 11 year old son at the helm.

Well it wasn't a smile, really, more of a broad grin.

There's something in this family cruising business...

Oh, and sailing into Pyefleet, by the dawn's early light, having come down from the Orwell overnight to watch the Colne Smack and Barge Match. We could just make out paraffin riding lights, which resolved themselves into smacks and barges as the light grew. Nothing in sight built after 1937 - we were the youngst boat there. It was as if we had stepped back a hundred years. Quite magical. Needless to say, no question of using an engine and breaking the spell...

I hope you don't think this an intrusion, but that is a 'magical' scene you sketch. And in my mind's eye, I too can see it. Or a conjured version.....

Thanks.

And wishing you more of the same in 2007....

Sailing into the Secret Harbour to close a 45 year circle

I should have mentioned that I unerringly identified every spell of rotten weather throughout the year. Hence my canceled New Year cruise, added to a catalogue which began with a very wet Dutch cruise in the Spring and included the holiday which began with the setting of the third reef as we slipped Titchmarsh, and the shaking out of it as we left Dieppe seven days and two hundred miles later. Anyone like to fill in my cruising diary for me this year? (And sincere thanks to all those who came along and enjoyed it!).

Sailed on yachts more than past few years...good

Sailed Laser less than previous years....bad

Had best ever Sunsail Club holiday ever ( was the sixth )....good

Remained solvent...good

Started and ended the year unemployed....bad

Remained healthly throughout 2006...good

All in all looking forward to 2007!
