Yet again, a report from sunshine Med - NOT!

My guess is that there is a risk of looting and fighting and they just want to clear things up. They have a number of diggers there just scraping everything up into huge piles.

I think some of the boat insurers may not be 'happy' with their course of rapid action.... there must be huge values of equipment being scrapped

If the insurance companies are multinational, is it an easy way of receiving free cash injection in to economy, a lot of replacement gear will be purchased through local Italian businesses?

Okay I was told by a captain and owner that no one is allowed to touch anything of the boats, and the boats that have ended outside the harbor and into Rapallo promenade.

Scraping has not been made and for now its a debris clean up, boats are left where they are for now which is a pity, since some boats with fast action on Tuesday morning could have been saved from sinking or sustaining more damage.

My son and his captain were allowed n for 5 minutes on Thursday and time whole the harbour master was telling them to hurry up. He managed to retrieve one bag of belongings but some crew got nothing. The sad thing is that they could have retrieved so much more but were ordered off the boat in no uncertain terms.

I was wondering the same, though it seems that 7S is referring to the current situation.

I could also understand why nobody is allowed anywhere near the total mess atm, and that they have other priorities than following the requests of each captain/owner, but it seems way ott to scrap everything regardless... :/

How are you folks coping in CF? I was just reading a link from the surge in Venice flooding the city, mentioning 160 KMH winds in Sardinia!

We heard there were tuna shortages in CF

LOL, no way.
Off season, we still have piles of the thing, either smoked, frozen, or packed in oil.
And just in case you have in mind the commercial canned tuna, mostly albacore in soybean oil, forget it.
That's as similar to proper bluefin tuna in extra virgin olive oil as chalk is to cheese! :encouragement:

Also, tuna aside, down here what we might be lacking is the most overrated IOU of modern times, i.e. money.
But when it comes to the assets which are really relevant in life, like good food, wine, clean air, fair weather (well, mostly...) and crystal clear waters, we are sitting right at the top of the food chain, so to speak!

PS for AndieMac: all fine, thanks.
We did have a couple of bumpy nights, when some waves found their way inside the harbor entrance, but nothing really worrying.
TBH, the most annoying thing was the slapping noise which we are not yet used to.
Frozen snot boats... Pah!

Yes quite different to the old girl, but hard chines compared to round bilges also.
With all that storm activity going on around the area, I don't think it would have mattered what boat you were in, most people would have been sleeping with one eye open.

Friend has just returned from Porto Petro.
A week of rain and extraordinary height of water in the port.
A couple of damaged yachts .

Can they really do that? The salvage is owned by the insurance companies surely?
