Yet again, a report from sunny Med - NOT!

Ok, these days you guys N of the Channel can be happy to NOT be boating in the Med, for a change.
Below is a general map of the weather situation - somewhat unusual I must say, at least in its extension.
It seems that today there isn't much alternative to stay put in a marina, just about anywhere in the whole Med. :ambivalence:
Aegean sea aside, which doesn't look too bad (just outside the screenshot, a bit further E)...

Indeed.
I sort of felt guilty for posting a jinx thread, after reading his sad news... :(
Oh, well. At least it seems that the accident happened earlier.

so true,

and I was about to reply to this thread with some pics of 4 of us swimming and sunbathing on MiToS yesterday...

oh well

Positively glorious here on the west coast of Turkey. 23C just now @16.47 and 29 forecast mid week. Sea temperature still around 20C. We are blessed.

I can confirm that the South of France is also wet and windy. The storm surge has raised the water in the marina, it is now level with the pontoon. The forecast for tonight is lots more wind, I expect the pontoons to be underwater soon. The boat is tied up as best as I can do, I’ve got flood defenses up for the house and the pool cover people texted us to warn of strong winds (though it’s battened down as much as possible). Just hope the dog doesn’t ask to go out for a pee.

What sort of surge height are you seeing in the marina?

Jimmy I'm in antibes tmrw 2pm (today actually - Tuesday) so will check the forum fleet and report back. Deleted User nickh silver dee and A&K too. I wouldn't expect problem in vauban - high water level tightens your bow lines which is what you want in a westerly if you point the way all forum boars point. As it happens none of my cars are parked on the quai, phew.

There’s been a surge that’s for sure .
Isn’t there a web cam at PV ?

You can scroll round and pan in once it’s fully loaded .

Interestingly I,am with an Amlim group of underwriters and renewal is next week .Like for like its gone up from about £500 to £830 this time .Previous years £30-40 rise ish .
Shopping around achieved about £1K price wise , with the usual online suspects and £1250 with Y .

So summits happened?
Guess the actuaries have been busy totting up the payouts with the various effects of EXTRA freak weather around the globe , Caribbean, Miami and now odd pockets in the Med .

So we all end up paying for it - shared risks etc

Morning jfm, thanks, a walk-by would be appreciated. I was only there at the end of last week and the weather was truly fab. Any surge would have to be pretty massive to overtop the quai, maybe 4 feet or something like that.

With such widespread and longlasting southern storm, 4 feet doesn't sound totally irrealistic.
After the waves destroyed the harbor wall in Rapallo (see below), I surely wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere in the internal docks, last night... :ambivalence:

That said, according to the news, in the W side of Liguria the weather was nowhere near as bad as in the E, so I would expect that to be true also also of SoF.
