Yell Sound, The Shetland Bus, Sea Lice, Curlews and Bikinis

Just thinking aloud, as it were. Apologies for any facile or long-dismissed suggestions.

Many of the places you cover are delightful but off the tourist trail. Do you think you get any regional bodies or tourist boards interested in your films for promotional purposes? How about airports and other places that want charming, calming footage to show in their public areas?
You mention doing the 'outside' of Ireland (where I'm from). Perhaps get in touch with some of the agencies promoting this area? They had great success with the Wild Atlantic Way and might be interested in a boaty dimension.
If you could get a client for a new area, maybe you could use the crowdfunding idea to get the film made.

Could you organise/market your material as a companion to an existing cruising guide?

Good luck Dylan. I hope you find a way to make some money from your beautiful work and keep going.

Thanks for the suggestion

I have made pitches to people over the years so I know how much is involved in making agood one

nice paper, brilliant powerpoint, great presentation, spread sheet with costs - spread sheet with defensible benefits

I would have to pitch to these holders of small budgets

An ugly englishman walks through the door and asks to be helped to make films shot from the cockpit of his unnatractive slab sided four knot shit box. One hopes that they have done their research and looked at some of the films. In them they saw and heard me talking about the stink from fish farms, the dangers of lobster pots and then suggesting that bonny price charlie was a bit of a twit.

I just don't think any of them would go for it.

the plan for the future is outlined here

it might not work

Don't think it will work, and yes you may get bored.

Visitmyharbour has seen the light. easy money.

your not selling to anyone a shit box and ugly man. your selling something most people only dream of, that's why no one is sailing anymore. anyone with a boat is a dreamer. I'm bloody poor, but just to have had a couple of boats and the chance to achieve some of those dreams in the future makes up for any failings. for the very best intentions, you need to know what you do have.

As for book sales, £1 a book x 12000. some people do a lot of shit work to earn that much. some people don't make anything when they write two books.

Lastly no one on YBW forum really gives a shit about bikinis, they want boats, waves, laughs, and excitement. you have quite a lot to meet their expectations. you, not the cameras are the real niche. you offer something not many people can. do you know it though !!.

id not give up what you have. In truth I think being a little stubborn, but it is very much your decision and genuinely the very best of luck.

I think that's a bit harsh on the Centaur.

Have you tried doing an accent? That guy off coast doing the comedy scots thing seems to do alright and he always looks like he's been coughed up by nessie. Complete with phlegm.

I have been practicing flicking my hair while gazing coquetishly over my shoulder, talking to the camera and walking away purposely

not easy to do on a 26 footer

you soon run out of deck space

centaurs are rather ugly don't you think. I like them but the scoop sterned lozenge brigade know that design has moved on.In fact we are now in the era of the twin wheel cheese wedge which are just as much of their age as the Centaur was.

Have you thought about going back to the duck punt? Will save on mooring fees and looks better than the Centaur. Less room for hair flicking, though.

we all like to see bikinis on our 50 inch screen - just not when our wives are in the room

"KTL - the sailing films you can watch with your wife"

I have to say I never watched Delos because of all the click bait blured out screenshots, mainly because I thought if the wife looked at the history she wouldn't be best pleased, but I gave one of the not so click bait clips a go with her in the room and she bloody loved it. We're now freeloading ;) our way through and it's her that wants to watch them.

I bloody love my wife, she's letting me take two weeks to do the Jester this year with no moans. (Maybe she's glad to get the time to herself ;) )

You're going to do the jester in two weeks?!!!! What on? A cruise liner?

excellent news - there is more to those films than click bait and they deserve to be the number 2 in the market after the click bait queen herself.

their films are becoming more about the relationships between the people in the films. I am a bit uncomfortable when the 40 year old man walks into a cabin with a nearly naked girl almost young enough to be his daughter and tells them to wake up. The films are beautifully made - never any wind noise in them, nice scripts, good gear, good boat. They are, I understand, running about a year behind reality. One girl who left had signed a contract not to go on social media saying what she weas doing until the film of her leaving had gone out.

how many hours do you think you and your wife have watched together

do you think you would ever "buy them a beer" as they say at the end.

I am told that their thank you emails to contributors are works of art.

the seem to be averaging 100,000 views per film

they have just over 1000 patrons and earn $5,000 per film

It's Baltimore this year ;)

Dylan, I'm more inclined to buy you a beer if I'm honest, but as I mentioned on your blog the other day the wife being on maternity and a little man to dress and feed money is tight. Maybe once/if you make it down to the muddy creeks of the Usk river to see the Newport Transporter Bridge i'll be in a better position to do so.

I have to say Chase the Story seem to be the best made films out there IMO (for production), but their lucky enough to have quite a bit of cash from what I can tell. I like Sail life for content (projects) and Sailing Uma, of course the ones I've seen of yours I have enjoyed.

Do you use a DSLR to get arty in any of them?

dslrs are really pricey and do not hold focus that brilliantly on a zoom or a pan

so I use one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-...205711&sr=8-4&keywords=panasonic+video+camera

live expectancy under my ownership is about 18 months

watching one fall over the side is a sad, sad experience

We're both big Delos fans, at a bit of a loss now that we have reached the end and caught up.
Might give Vagabond a go now... although we weren't blown away by the first couple of videos. I hope they get better at it as they go along.

Dylan perhaps you should direct your films at the non sailing other half. A sort of get them out of your way in a floating shed/cave.
A place that they know that their charges will not be bothering them and getting up to mischief.
