<font color=blue>I'm scouting around the net to buy a portable hi-fi unit. I find what I want an rund a price comparison. Well! Comet came off worse by about 25% but their site says not only will the match others they will go 10% below it. I call them and observe out of the 7 companies stocking said unit they were the worst. He then reeled off names of firms like Currys etc. and said they were the only ones they would match, in short, only those companies within their own umbrella. They don't try and match companies they don't own.

Couldn't believe Dixons.....

Bought a bottom of the range portable cd player, pointed out that Tescoe sold exactly the same £5 cheaper. I was told "Its not the same brand name, this "name" is only sold by Dixons".

No, I couldn't be bothered going back to Tescoe.

Dave.

<font color=blue>I thought of contacting the A.S.A. until I read the cleverly constructed copy. As if add insult to injury I suspect the advertising executive that wrote the copy started as an office junior with my ad agency 20 years ago.

Suggest you find the cheapest price on the net for what you want and then tackle "Richer Sounds" on Oxford Road in Reading. I got individual prices on all the components of my home cinema system, they were the cheapest for one item but when I went in they agreed to match for the lot.

For hi-fi bits for the boat Richer Sounds were not only the cheapest but the best. Went to the one in Southampton told them what I wanted and they put the whole lot together for me, carried it out to the car etc. they couldn't have been more helpful.
Went to Curry's for a flat screen TV. Not only was it £100 more than elsewhere, when I asked them to order a wall bracket for it they said they wouldn't - told me that it was up to me, so went back to Richer Sounds in Guildford, the guy there produced a magazine review which said that the TV I wanted was the crappiest one on the market and suggested a TV they didn't sell.
