Kinda supplementary question... I have a pair of Dubarry boots, which I love - but occasionally my ankle locks up and I can't get them on. Do the YBC boots flex enough to be my second pair for less flexible days?

Yes, they are made of neoprene and stretch quite a lot, it is the only way that I can get then on over my high instep.
