Now all the fuss seems to have died down regarding the high costs at Dolphin marina, Poole, I thought I'd mention some comparative costs with Yarmouth.
I was out the weekend before last (2nd - 5th May) and for reasons over which I'll not dwell I was obliged to seek a pontoon mooring each night.
One night inside Yarmouth on a 10 metre boat with 4 'bods tallied :-
Mooring £18 - - 4x harbour taxi (evening) £8 -- 4x taxi (next morning) £8 -- showers (once) £4.80
total £38.80 ( I realise that I could have taken the dinghy and saved (£16 - but even then the total would have been nearly £23).
One night at Poole - £26 including all the showers we might have wanted (needed ?!) and direct access to the shore. Also included was water although I think electricity might have been extra BUT it was available.
Actually I much prefer Yarmouth but the prices are steadily creeping up.
(By the way, the shower block at Poole is a tad inconvenient ( you have to cross a fairly busy road)but was excellent EXCEPT that some dimwit has installed ordinary cheap domestic shower units which are already falling to pieces because they're simply not made for such high usage)

I was in Yarmouth Saturday night and was charged £14.50 for a 11.3m boat. We were on the Town Quay so didn't need taxis.

A passing observation is that all the venues in tehSolent are more than creeping up - they are galloping ahead of inflation at a startling rate. I'm not quite sure where the cost is incurred to justify it; how expensive can it be to install and run a pontoon/piling/mooring buoy when you are charging these sorts of figures??

disposable incomes have risen as fast as house prices, and I don't think they go up that fast.

Yes, but that would still make the bill £27.30 with one return use of the water taxi (assuming that the quay was full, as it often is) ( Nevertheless I must have a word with the bloke who was running the 'kitty' and said it was £18 ! ! !)

Agree, we were lucky to be rafted outside another boat at the quay which meant we didn't need fender boards or taxis - a rare event.

I just happened to have the bill in front of me when I read your post, but agree with you in principle.

Well do I remember...

.. or should it be "Well? DO I remember?...

(Some of my clients are actually paying the penalty to get out and take up one of the "Free" re-mortgage deals around!)

....Is Yarmouth really THAT expensive these days?

Last time I was in there was four years ago and I can't remember it going into double figures for our (then) 30footer. Mind you when we kept a boat there ( 18footer around 17 years ago) it was £132 a year!

Where we are now we pay Euro 1.32 a night for a 42 footer. (But you have to add on the costs to Easyjet!)

We (Col, Happy1, BarryH, Forbsie and friend's and family) were there Friday with 3 boats (and a tender or 2) and paid around 40 odd for the berths and a tenner for the showers = 50 for the boating bit against 150 for steaks at the Wheatsheaf (excellent), 60 for the odd drinks there and in other establishments and 40 quids worth of Pussers/Mountgay/ etc on the boat.

Interestingly the shower costs pretty much balanced the additional fixed cost at Mercury.
