Many thanks for the responses. My issue only related to the swinging mooring charges of £28 which when you add in a return water taxi for three is £15 ,resulting in a total cost of £43,which I struggle with seeing how this is good value as one of the posts mentions.I do not have a problem with the inner harbour charges .

However I will on occasions continue to make use of the swinging moorings if on passage and want an early start but otherwise will give them a miss.

I was informed that
- Yarmouth outside moorings are premium priced in view of their value to those jumping off early the next day (as mentioned above)
- Dan Bran Lymington pontoon, before it became more of a rally pontoon, was also premium priced as the Lymington harbour team decided to copy the Yarmouth prices

With Lymington town quay now upmarket and priced so, and Beaulieu mid river pontoons gone and replaced by more expensive walk ashore pontoons, we are steadily seeing places of character jump up in price. Fortunately there are a number of great value for money or free locations left.

I’m still crying over the shift years ago from the social and affordable Poole town quay to the high priced marina. I really don’t mind paying a fair price, even for anchoring, but don’t enjoy being on the receiving end of ‘charge what the market will bear’.

I hated Poole Town Quay due to the wash created by all the boats charging up to catch the bridge open. Depending on the tide direction the wash could be even worse.

However, go on a Tuesday evening in summer and get a free show of amazing motorbikes, and in more normal times Friday evening cars. When I first moved to Poole in 1977 often used to lunch in the Lord Nelson 'cos my boss fancied the barmaid!

Best place to berth in Poole is Poole Yacht Club haven. quiet, good bar and food and only 15 minutes walk from the quay although can't vouch for the attractiveness of the barmaids these days.

Thank you -anywhere but the town quay. Hopefully the French restaurant in the pub has survived the covid lockdown but will look up look at yacht club for dining - not certain the lord nelson is perhaps the place it might be but might be interesting to try out -I have a picture of the castle tavern in Gosport in mind but maybe I’m being unfair .

Is PYC also known as ”pike”, and has berths surrounded by walls made of piles of stone? If it is then I recall going from Le Havre directly to PYC to join a rally only to find that I was the only one arriving by boat, a 21’ yacht. Oh well :). The price of a visitor berth then was really high. I mean really really high. That was about 18 years ago.

I just checked the PYC web site and see they are indeed pike. There is no mention of visitor rates on the web site. Does anyone know what they are please?

£15 per night last year, so whilst a better deal compared to other places, its still an inflation busting increase of 13.3 % . Buoys in Yarmouth is £21, but you can still anchor (and give an optional donation).

Correct place. It is a members club, but visitors welcome if there are empty berths because members are away. There are no specific visitors berths. Limit 38', but only small number capable of taking over 35'. Rates are comparable to the rates on the Quay and the other 3 big marinas in the harbour. Ambience is better though if you like calm.
