Within the last month I have paid £28 for an outside the harbour swinging mooring at Yarmouth mid week and £17 for a pontoon mooring on a Saturday at the Folly. There was only one pub doing food at Yarmouth and they were fully booked so had to eat on board. As for the Folly,I had a good reasonably priced meal at the Folly Inn. As such happy with the Folly pontoon, which seems good value.

Yarmouth outside swinging moorings are the same price as their non walk ashore inner pontoons ! Has Yarmouth Harbour, which used to be one of my favourite destinations ,lost the plot re its pricing regime ?
I don't think you can blame the harbour authority for the catering arrangements in the pubs. ?

You probably should be thankful that they don't charge more since they have been essentially full every time IME thus far this year and last summer and I fully expect that to continue for the rest if this season.

Their ashore facilities are some of the best in the Solent and their berthing team exemplary in their patience and politeness.

If one doesn't like the prices, one should go elsewhere and leave room for others.

They used to offer a mid week discount, pile moorings , no leccy)
and you used to be able to anchor at no charge inside the mooring.
i think they did 20 odd years ago when I worked out of there one summer.
Not as long ago as that, I was anchoring there without hassle up to at least 15 years ago, if not a bit less.

Quite
Some are lucky enough to have more choices than others based on time and weather when that time is available
From Hampshire weekend sailing , for walk ashore convenience and a bit of a sense of mud free destination and island atmosphere , Yarmouth has maximised its advantage very well.

Whether £26 for hanging on a buoy in open water is value adding though , I am less convinced

By way of context, the price of UK holidays has skyrocketed as families turn their eyes to domestic locations this summer.

It is clear from Yarmouth's occupancy rates that berthing rates could be pushed a good deal higher this year and then perhaps dropped back under special deals, etc., next year.

Which indicates an organisation prepared to balance the long term interests of its broader stakeholders against purely economic criteria.

Then there's the fact that these harbours cost money to run and maintain.

It's hard to complain too loudly.

The buoys outside Yarmouth are good value if you want a no-hassle early departure and don't want to be rafted up with noisy twats from sailing schools etc.
People seem to moan alot about the costs of parking their boat the 15 nights a year it's not on its home mooring at greater cost for no gain?

Think the '15 nights a year' says it all, speaking as an (allegedly) noisy twat from a sailing school. IME instructors have far more control over crew behaviour than 'keen to impress' skips trying to rein in their friends, giddy from a Solent crossing.
