Had a lovely trip to Yarmouth for the carols last night, met up with DJEfabs, Rogerrat, RickP, whitelighter and others for a drink and a sing. A good time was had by all.
But given the yachmaster tips thread on scuttlebutt where everyone is perfect, I think I need a confessional........
Arrived at Yarmouth, finger berth had quite a strong side wind, blowing me off the finger. O K asked the HM, yes I said but can you hold my bow with your dory? He agreed. I asked crew to fender up the boat side with high fenders. Coming alongside the other boat is fine if square, losing the bow and getting wrapped around his anchor is a different matter.
Anyway, I was swinging boat round to line up with the berth, HM placed the dory amidships. Hold my bow I shout and so does my crew, I knew the B/T could not hold it in the strong wind but the stern is no problem, I have 2 engines. It wasnt working so I kept the boat square to the boat alongside but the crew had not put a fender at the stern. Crunch. It made a horrid noise but I couldn't see any damage thankfully. Other boat has contact details etc. but I think I got away with only hurt pride.
The the singing and the eating happened and then we went back to DJEfabs squadron for more drinks. Bed time arrived and we were just 3 boats away. My companion missed her footing getting back onto the boat and she went fully in the drink. OK get her holding a rope, tell her not to move, deploy ladder and get her out. Iphone in pocket but I even dried it out. Got away with that.
Next day leaving at 830 to drop two crew at pre abandoned car in Lymington, half out of the berth and someone spotted the orange mooring line. Opps, back in and disconnect, poor princess owner next to me thinks (correctly) I'm a complete numpty now. Anyway, got away with that one too!
We had lunch in Cowes and met whitelighter again, then came back to ocean quay. I have a difficult berth for which I get a discount but with force 6 on the beam and with only 1 very novice crew I elected to put her in an easier berth for the night.
Good weekend though!
