YAPP: A Sailing Raspberry Pi

Do you mean the "cmake -DCFLAGS="-O2 -march=native" ../" options mentioned on the OpenCPN site, or are there other options available?

Cheers,
Jack

Sort of, went with -O3 as that is even more optimised. Also added -mtune=native

Hmmm. Don't really know what to say. I just did "sudo apt-get install libtinyxml-dev" and all was good. I started with a vanilla debian6-19-04-2012 install from the RPi website...

fixed it - one of the previous packages I'd compiled broke the system variable which told the compiler where to find libraries.

Having at last managed to find a working combination of usb hub, keyboard and mouse for my Pi, I thought I'd have a go at setting up a Bluenext 903s GPS dongle, along with a lightweight mapping application - a bit of a struggle as trying to get advice from Linux geeks is pretty well impossible. Fortunately some humans have done this as well, so there is a bit of comprehensible info out there. Result:

You mean "RTFM" :D:D:D

That's the typical 'Linux Geek' response. :D:D:D

Nicely done BTW. :)

...."Have you mooed today?"...

(Had to bodge it as the forum software doesn't like cows much)

D'ya think JVcom would work with Wine in the Pi, the linux wfax software I´ve tried so far was pretty awful. And that´s one of the big hopes for a Pi, leave it on for hours downloading wfax.

I know I'm on a slightly different tack to everyone else, but I thought these screenshots might be interesting for those having a play. Has been running happily for about 3 hours on the Pi, the first is the output from cgps, the second is xgps. Nowhere near the complexity of an OpenCPN install, but a bit of forward progress for me anyway.
The usb dongle is a BlueNext 903s usb (cost about £16 I think), just plugged into the 4 port hub (which I've also hacked slightly to provide the power supply).

The FoxtrotGPS application I showed before apparently is able to use a variety of maps (including Google). Not sure whether there are any (free) charts available for the UK that I could play with to see if they will work - even low quality ones would do for testing, so if anyone has a link...
