yanmar engine oil removal

So being a novice at engine oil changes, can you pump out the oil by putting the suction pipe over the dip stick tube and the suction removes the oil, as opposed to inserting a tube all the way in? I’m guessing there’s always some old oil left in the sump?
Yes. Also, it helps if the oil is warm. Be aware of the small hole in the dip stick tube as already pointed out in post number 4.
I use a Draper 12v extractor.

Extraction using dip stick tube works well. To get last drop leave everything in place for ten minutes after you pump out and then have another go. This allows more to drain down and get sucked out

If this hasnt been mentioned, extract the oil when the engine and oil are really hot, it makes extraction so much easier especially with the smaller tubed extractor.

No, the thin pipe needs to be placed via the dip stick tube, at the lowest point in the sump to sook the oil out.
The YM range is designed so that the dipstick tube goes right to the bottom of the sump, which is presumably why Yanmar included the vent hole.

You will not remove any more oil by pushing a narrow tube down inside the dipstick tube and, for reasons that are not really relevant, you will probably actually extract less of the old oil.
