New owner of 2002 6ly2a-stp 440 hp yanmars. I am having all fluids / filters changed, drive belt replaced, zincs, impellers and cooloant system flushed cleaned etc. The engines received the Yanmar 500 hr service as well from previous owner with documentation of this and valve adjustment took place during this. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, how often should valve adjustments take place, injector service? etc. Do these yanmar engines have a history of valve problems like the 300 hp LP series
Thanks again any thoughts would be great.

valve adjustment every 600 hours, it's a completely different engine to the 6LP and there is no history of valve trouble with them. Zincs can wear quite quickly, they should ideally be propped to reach 3400+rpm measured with an accurate tacho. The belt may need some adjustment in between routine services. Keep an eye on levels and service them regularly and you shouldn't have any trouble.

Just don't expect Marinew Power to be in any way helpful or flexible unless you look like you are about to buy a new engine.

The tosspots had my MASE generator (they are dealers) for three weeks and all they did was dismantle it and claim it was a write off before suggesting I 'just buy a new one' for £3k + VAT.

This was after an in-boat inspection. They then quoted £600 for the parts to repair it (some way from a write off then) but wanted £900 labour - to basically fit a new alternator.

Nope, I would avoid Mairne Power in Bursledon, with a very very wide berth.
