Suspected broken pin in the clutch shifter. Does anybody know whether this is reparable whilst the boat is
in the water?
Either way any guidance would be much appreciated.

The parts catalogue shows two versions ( "previous" and "new") of the shift assembly. Both have components described as "pin" in their insides but don't know which you have of course.

It looks as though either shift assembly can be removed, subject to access, from the drive while the boat is afloat without problems although the oil will have to be drained down first.

The worry might be that if a pin has broken bits of it may have fallen deep into the gearbox.

Thanks you for your observations.
Now proceeding to remove top cover from gearbox.
Just have to hope that the old pin does not cause problems.

Will report back when job done. Thanks once again for your time

Which model of saildrive? SD 50? There are some great YouTube videos showing how to lap the clutch cones on this drive, which involves removing the clutch shifter you mention. Worth a look

What sail drive I we talking about? I was assuming an SD20 which has the shift mechanism on the side of the box.

Yes it is the SD20. Reason for intention to remove top cover is to allow oil extraction and to aid access.Appreciate shifter appears to withdraw from the side.

Thanks for that. This one is the SD20 which may not be too different to the SD50 so will certainly look at YouTube
Obliged.

There is a known issue with the SD25 saildrives which is almost the same as the SD20 and there is a "service advisory" issued for both. They recommend every 250hrs the tapered pin be checked as it may fall out. Yamar ref: YMTQTB16-066 dated Sept 1st 2016.

Only need to drain some oil just to below the level of the gear shifter.

Sorry for the delay in providing his update.
Straightforward job really-just a tad fiddly lining up the assembly whilst working through a very small aperture.
It turned out there was nothing wrong with the pin( although it was due for inspection as advised by Rattler#12).

This all came about because of lack of drive in forward and reverse. The guilty party was the prop which had gone walk about .
Thanks to everybody for their advice.
