Yanmar 2GM20 gearbox lube

I guess the clutch has lasted quite well then?
Rob.

They are said to last for ever on the semi-automatics, because the hydraulics engage them sensibly. Mine's a manual, but even so I hope to get a good long time out of it. It's been parked in a barn for five years, which helps.

I used to work in an automotive company where testing our product could mean extensive stripping of cars. All the test engineers were petrol heads straight from Uni and believed German cars to be brilliant and French carp. After a while working on them they came to agree that German cars didn't suffer electrical faults because they were all company owned (no-one could afford them) and French cars often had failed electrical accessories which never got fixed as you didn't use them anyway. Much the same with mechanics, but BMW are quieter inside - they have six inches more sound insulation.

Rob.

We've had the discussion about how carp French cars are in The Lounge many times. From practical experience working on French cars (never owned by me, of course) I've held to this view for over 40 years now but the clincher for me was when the Government published the statistics of cars which failed their first MOT a couple of years ago. The bottom three makes ....... Renault, Citroen and Peugeot!

suitable for use in naturally aspirated four stroke petrol and diesel engines and classic gearbox designs.

Not being familiar with all these different types of oil, what is the difference between the Screwfix SAE 30 for four stroke engines and the Morri Golden Film SAE 30 Classic Motor Oil for 4 stroke engines?

Confused??

I cannot find any useful information about the Screwfix one. The Morris oil has an API CC specification, which means it has a small additive package that makes it suitable for a lot of older engines. Morris blend a lot of this grade for canal boats and I use it in my motor sailer that has a BMC 2.2 diesel, although I use a 20/50 viscosity suitable for oil pressure that barely lifts the needle off the zero stop.

I would not put 10/40 in a gearbox.
