Yamaha rectifier

I have just bought an Achilles 24 Which had no engine but a Yamaha rectifier.The engine which I have bought for the Boat is a Honda 5 hp 4 stroke. Is the rectifier compatible with the Engine? the local Yamaha dealer says no but the Honda dealer says yes.

It depends on the output of the engine electrical system and the rating of the rectifier. If the engine output is, for example, 12 volts 6amps and the rectifier is rated the same or greater then it it should be OK.
I am assuming that the rectifier is a full wave unit? Half wave will give a dc voltage of approx half the ac voltage!
I also assume that the rectifier is used for battery charging and instrumentation/lighting. Also that the engine has no internal rectification for this purpose and that the ignition system is independent of the rectifier!
