A friend lost her husband a couple of years ago and the boat was sold. She was asking me about the outboard in her garage. It’s a Yam Malta. Nothing on the case to say what size. It’s a short. Looks in good nick, serviced two years ago and not used since. Where is hp shown? Are these good and worth a bit?

There’s an inflatable too which looks good in its cover. Need to pump it up to see what it is. She hasn’t a clue.

Well regarded outboards. 3hp I think. 2 stroke so work of the devil but many of the beardy MAB owners on here like that sort of thing so gotta be worth £300 or so.

Get the engine number of the plate and google the reference. I picked a 3.5 up for €250 a couple of years ago. Popular motor and still sought after.

Yes an excellent 2 stroke and 3Hp as said she should have no problems selling it around the £150 to £200 mark it's finding someone that wants one as it's a 2 stroke maybe best sold as a job lot with the dinghy.

3 Hp as already said and a very popular small outboard.

One was sold via the "for sale" board here last August for £350

Excellent little motors ... highly respected and have powered many dinghys through the years.

Serviced and in goof overall condition ? Worth more than some quote here ... 150 to 200 ??? That's give-away price ... you can double that easily for a well looked after Malta.

She hadn’t. She is waiting for me to deal with it. I wanted to run it up but that’s ten days away. She said it was serviced before it went into the garage. I could convince her to accept £300 as is. Or more once I’ve run it. How do want to play this?

Slatted floor dinghy (looks unused) is also available.

Thanks for the update, am out the country at moment and have a bid in on one on eBay at moment that runs out at the weekend, if not would you be able to send me photos. Thanks

Hi the other motor I had bid on has fallen through so keen to see this one but can only really do this coming Thursday, do you think it would be possible to view it that day. Thanks Phil

I shall have to check with the owner. I would have dealt with it but I am away sailing all week. Where are coming from? The outboard is in Leigh-on-Sea.

Desirable things these days. That’s one of the early ones from around early 90’s. An easy £300-350 if she’s running. Those early ones don’t have a tell tale, it should be noted.
They are 3hp, but have a much larger displacement compared to other engines around that power. Strong wee things. I’ve had one for years and years. It’s just never failed to start, even after sitting for a few years unused. There was or is actually one for sale now, for about £500 or something like that. Pushing it there. But I’d certainly be wanting £350 for it at least.
