YAESU - FT-857D , ICOM 7100 SSB radio. Any experience?

Looking at getting an SSB for the boat.


As the ICOM 801/802 is out of manufacture , does anyone have experience of the alternatives on the market?

The Yaesu and ICOM will both need an ATU i believe as well as a grounding system.

Are they any good? Can you set up e-mail. weather fax etc?

I have the ICOM M710 with AT120 and use it for email via WinMor on my laptop.
I have quite a poor ground therefore the range is only about 400 to 500 miles.
