Well I am sorry for being so boring, but I have been up to my neck in studying and looking after my new gorgeous blonde Swedish Au Pair, I just can't concentrate on anything else at the moment. She said she wanted to come on my boat, so I have had her on it for the last two weekends, SWMBO is getting a bit fed up baby sitting though /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif I am taking her for a weekend down to Poole with the boat, so perhaps some of us could meet up.

OK serious stuff now. We have been looking at lights and sounds this week as well as chartwork and other stuff, but instead of boring you I think that the following web site (given by the tutor) would be of great interest. Please if you have the time download the free 30 day trial, it is well worth it and very good. It goes through all the lights, sounds e.t.c. gives lessons and then tests. It only takes a minute or so to download, I would be interested to see what you make of it. I am sure that in 30 free days some of you would have learned quite a bit, I have.

** The sounds section in 'Nav Rules' is scary with the lights out /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

P.S. Note the 'all round' red and green 'optional lights', I had never heard of them before tonight.

Err NOT meant to be that way /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Anyway I can't think clearly after doing those sounds time after time to try and get them right, they are sending me a bit strange, or is it something else? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif. Mind you there are a few I wouldn't want to anchor near in poor visibility, can you imagine all that clanging all night long, if you didn't know what it was it could scare the crap out of you /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

When I did the "Yachtmaster" theory course, several years ago now I hasten to add,

Found the learning was not that difficult, Well the nav side of it anyway!

Retaining it, Now thats a completely different story !......

Think it was you had to get 80% of the Collision rules correct to pass !
Not a snowballs chance in hell of that now.
And all those lights and sounds, does my head in now just to think of it

Have you tried the download? you may find it jogs the memory and it all comes back, watch out for the sounds though /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif. What I have realised is, that the illogical way that the lights and shapes follow is a total mess. It seems that we have been left with a truly daft, complicated, illogical and difficult system to contend with, but it would take too much to change it now, so it just gets worse. It just seems hard having to learn such nonsense, but as we are stuck with it, it is necessary.

Thanks for the update and the link to nav rules program. I am determined to use it to revise the lights and sound signals which, as someone has said, the remembering of can be a problem.

Given that the "someone" was just two posts back (apologies to Mike27), I am obviously fading fast in the memory department.

Hello H1

Having met your Swedish oh pair no wonder you are having problems concentrating on other things!
Keep at it - the YM that is - it's worth all the hassle to be able to walk away at the end and say " YES ".
Good to see you again the other day. Got Picard back to Windsor OK. Good run!

Peter

The Au pair oh yes I have met the Au pair, very very nice, drives the boat well, must have been the comforting arm that was draped around her as we motored passed, who's arm you ask, couldn't possibly say, suffice to say that only 2 people were visible on deck and one was definitely Peter
