Yachtmaster Ocean

Have you actually looked to see how many stars there are in that area? Bl..y millions!!
I still do not know which one I should be looking at. I may as well lob a dart at the sky & hope
But Polaris is the only bright star in that region - even the rest of Canis Minor is pretty dim. Cassiopeia's chair is also pretty obvious, and Polaris is pretty much mid way between the Plough and Cassiopeia. I'm no expert on star recognition, but locating Polaris is about as easy as it gets.

That's a bit of a pity ...or a PITA.

Because.... given an pos-identification of this Magnitude 2.00 ( variable ) star and a clear northern horizon, an astro shot of Polaris is the easiest way to get Latitude.

If those hairy-assed ould Vikings could do it, to find the Faeroes and Newfoundland, it's worth persevering - even if only to get a Boy Scout badge! Polaris

Brilliant. Never heard of Cassiopeia's chair. So where the $%^& is that ? Yeah I know -- twice as far as half the other one. So now I have 2 to find

There's a lot to think about....
