Due to the impending Diesel price increase, we looked at Yachting as you do. After some sales patter we arranged a trial Sail, great we said, but the whole trial was marred by the not stop yelling and sreaming at any motor boater within 5 miles, non stop slagging and abuse, if this is the way of raggies you can keep it!
I'll stick with the stinkies at any price.

If that was really your experience, I am sorry for you and can only apologise for such a bad experience. We dont all shout and scream at misbehaving "fellow" boaters (both raggie and stinkie). (unless sorely provoked) Perhaps youe skipper for the day was a frustrated Captain Bligh type, and you should try again with someone more enlightened.

I have to say I really get peeved at the mobo versus raggie stuff - Cant we all recognise that there are some silly bu**ers in both type of craft, who get the rest of us a bad name, and get down to the serious mud slinging at the drivers of PWC, especially that twit this afternoon who thought it such a good wheeze to drive through the boats anchored at Osbourne Bay, that he did it another 5 times! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

I am dissapointed that you have been put off yachting by one of the few people who let the raggies down. I went out of a marina on the south coast with a cruising instructor who was like this. He shouted and sweared at anything without a mast. This behaviour is not on by raggies or stinkies, and I hope that you get another opportunity to find out what you are missing out on in your motor boat!

That's a shame. Sounds as if you got a right dick! Most of the guys and gals whether raggie or stinkie are as sound as a pound .. however the odd rotten one pops up and it loks as if you got one ..

Who on earth did you go sailing with? School, Broker, Friends? Whoever they were, you picked the wrong people. Sailing is a wonderful thing, and there shouldn't have been any shouting, of any sort.

Hi Pete,

Thats interesting, being a fellow local, who did you go out with, were they mates, or was it Blue Baker, East Anglian or Britannia? Surely not with Johnny from the well known Brokers opposite?

Most interested to hear your reply... Having done a bit of the rag / stick stuff, i found it to be the total opposite, but then again, i was out with YM Instructor... so possibly a different attitude?

Chin up!

Craig.

Get a life! This is not what ALL yachtsmen are like!

Try cruising elsewhere and you may meet many pleasant yachtmen/women. I cruise with both sailors and mobo's and we have a great time.

Regards.

Peter.

Sweeping statements- nope!

One (or even more) abusive/objectionable sailor, motorist, cyclist, football fan, whatever , doesn't really justify writing off the whole lot of 'em.....and your interest in the activity, does it?.
