I find Wikipedia quite accurate. Well a good starting place for some of the more geeky questions need to look up.
I find it very accurate. A fabulous resource.

Old style encyclopedias were pretty rubbish in comparison.

It's generally good, but you always have to watch out for "facts" inserted by someone who once saw a Disney nature film! And of course, controversial issues are difficult for it to deal with. But I agree that printed encyclopedias can't compete.

yes, but what wikepedia doesn't do is self populate topics and then invite people to edit them. It waits for people to write the entry in the first place.
Well, it does actually. And the stubs get more accurate as time goes by.

The source used for the stubs isn't necessarily the best, though. For example, it uses the USGS Antarctic Gazetteer for Antarctic place names rather than the Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica, which is a far more comprehensive compilation.
Yes, but I think the stub is really more of an invitation to submit text, hoping someone will take on the task.

There are many critics of Wikipedia and I suspect most of them are neither users nor contributors, just making comments on hearsay.

I looked up my boat, and it tells me that it would not be accepted in major ocean races. Which I suspect would come as news to the sisterships that won the Fastnet and several Transatlantic races.
It also got the LOA wrong.

So I looked up some others, and I've yet to find one single successful offshore racing design that would actually be accepted into major ocean races according to that website.

I then looked up a Westerly 41. And on the section headed "interior" it usefully said "The boat is equipped with a galley." Nothing else.

Nice idea, but the data seems at best patchy.
Well, you could always tag along with me - my Capsize Screening Formula says I'm ocean racing eligible. I might need to glass over those windows and will the dinghy be OK on the back?

And I have more comfortable motion than 90% of boats (not in a quartering sea I don't!).

A classic case of a picture says a thousand words.

Not to mention not being donators! Though with the usual caveat that once you have donated you get regular invitations to do it again, quite reasonably!

I couldn't find my boat, so looked up a Bav Vision 46 instead ....

The Vision 46 is a sailboat.

..... it helpfully told me.

The Vision 46 is 4,19m wide and 13,7m long so has a L/B ratio for the hull of 3,26 - but the web site thinks the ratio is 3,96 and gives the following information ...

L/B (Length Beam Ratio)
What is L/B (Length Beam Ratio)?
The l/b ratio for Vision 46 is 3.96.

Compared with other similar sailboats it is slimmer than 95% of all other designs. It seems that the designer has chosen a significantly more speedy hull design. This type of design is also referred to as 'needle'.

So a relatively fat AWB gets categorised as a "needle" having a "more speedy hull design."

Verdict: D- must try harder.

Yachtdatabase

Found this the other day. Might be worth looking up your yacht's data if it is held.
Bit more data than the excellent sailboatdata website. Just put your boat details in Boat Type.

Boat Reviews - Sailboats, Motorsailers, Motor boats, Dinghies, Inflatables, Other boats
Far too much AI - which generally is not actual "intelligence", just a non-critical trawl through and regurgitate from other sources of information. Our archive may not have nearly as many boats listed, but the details are as close to accurate as I can get - Archive boat data from Yachtsnet Ltd. online UK yacht brokers - yacht brokerage and boat sales

The prime purpose of the yachtdatabase website is possibly advertising revenue - there are ads plus links to software downloads. Always a bad sign....

I use yours and do find it useful but can I point out you have no Seawolf 26 or 30 information? You have the Dehler 36cws but not the 37cws nor the 37.

Data not too bad for my tub. Comfort level only 8% though but my SA/D indicates that I am 88% faster than other similar boats in light winds. I too must never venture offshore. Immersion rate was a new one on me but should impress others in the club bar.
