I bought some yacht varnish to use on the woodwork in our bathroom. Whilst reading the instructions I noticed that it was not suitable for a marine environment. So is it only for use on land yachts?

This is an old chestnut. There is marine yacht varnish which is the real McCoy and generally produced by marine coatings specialists and sold in marine outlets at, some would say, inflated prices, and domestic vanish labelled 'marine' varnish for no particularly good reason. The formulation is different.

I bought some 'International Yacht Varnish' in B& Q, didn't read label and that too said not for marine use!
I rang them and they said it was 'old labels' see new ones.
Current tin STILL says not for marine use! But it seems to be fine on cockpit lockers - for a couple of years - so is that good eneough?
It is odd though!

...apparently the term 'Yacht Varnish' describes a particular shade/colour of varnish...
