Yacht transport cost

I got someone to bring a Contessa 26 from Falmouth to Largs a few years back for around £1,000. - I got two or three quotes, at comparable prices.
I guess if you add some for the intervening years / fuel costs and subtract some for the shorter mileage you should be in the ballpark.

If it can be towed on a 'normal' trailer it shouldn't be too bad. My 37 footer (ooh er missus) from Gosport to the Clyde was around £1.50 per mile for the round trip, but that was by artic.

You may be lucky and get a return job at, say £1 per mile. Have a search on the forum, as this has been discussed a few times, and there are some links and recommendations about suppliers.

Just bought a boat in Soton. Marina want £180 to drop mast & £250 to crane onto truck. UK Haul wanted £750 to truck it to Gillingham where they wanted £250 to put the stick back up and launch. I have decided to sail!!

We paid £ 500 for moving Bavaria 34 from Essex to Whitehaven a couple of years ago. Would have been cheaper if we were able to do a shared trip ...eg. find out if transport company is moving any load south in similar time period you want to do reciprocal trip.

Just had Jim Ricketts of Conwy transport mine. He has a HIAB (big crane on his lorry) so if you can get to a quayside he can lift you out, take down your mast, lift you on the lorry transport you & reverse the process at the other end. He does work countrywide. He will be cheaper if you can let him fit it in with other work.

He took my Countess 33 from Cardiff to Conwy for 1000, but that was me being forced to one particular date. That also included him hanging around for 5 hours whilst I took masts down (with his hoist) & he also ran me to Barri to pick up timber I needed. If you were ready to roll with mast already down it would be 250 less. Google Jim Ricketts Conwy and you will get his website. He's got a way cool truck.

No connection, just a very satisfied customer... he was incredibly helpful with various problems I had & fitting in the timing.

I was quoted £500 from Bristol to Southampton. But after adding unstepping/stepping and cranage I was probably looking at more like a grand. Interestingly the guys at Southampton confessed that they didn't really want to restep the mast in case they got the wires muddled up. Hmm.

Why not negotiate with the seller to build in a few months of mooring and sail her or hire a delivery skipper for some or all of the journey?

Dude
