Yacht Designer Mornington Crescent

Since Kukri & Bajansailor have shown us a couple of yachts with unexpected keels, I'd like to present SK-95 "Britt-Marie", designed and constructed by Tore Holm in 1921:



..and her keel:



Britt-Marie moored alongside us once, bow-to the jetty at Fejan in the Stockholm archipelago. Puffin (Maxi 999) is 9.9m x 3.25m, a quite typical cruising yacht. Britt-Marie was over twice as long, but substantially narrower: 21.45m x 2.68m.

Charles Sibbick.

We need two pictures… here is his rater ‘Bona Fide’:


Nice classic yacht from 1899, on the Mediterranean circuit… but she is a bit unexpected under the water…


She won a gold medal at the 1900 Olympics.

Amazing. I had never heard of Charles Sibbick until last week, when I found some pictures taken by my late father in law sailing in the Clyde and West Coast of Scotland in the Fifties.

One boat he sailed on was the yawl Saionara, apparently designed and built by Charles Sibbick in 1897 - seen here at Crinan in 1956 (alongside Saskia of Rhu)


From other sources I believe she started out as a gaff yawl, but later converted to Bermudan.
Apparently she ran training cruises in Scotland - potentially on behalf of the Scottish Council for Physical Recreation and skippered by Jock Kerr Hunter - though I am not clear if these were two separate phases of use or whether Jock skippered the boat for SCPR

Nice one. again, some astonishing appendages, or are they as a result of recent restoration work ?

Tore Holm certainly could draw an elegant boat. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Svea sailing from close-up.

One of those boats , so long and elegant that the ships dinghy is stored upright , fore and aft .. on the aft deck .. ?
