Yacht delivery

Thanks for your kind offer , The boat is westerly Konsort and on first view looks to be I fairly good condition . Has all the usual navigation equipment ,plus radar . I am hoping to go down to her after the holidays are over and give it a survey and test all the gear , The engine is only a few years old . I am a marine engineer and have sailing previous sailing experience but not for any distance . Once sale completed it can go on a mooring and the be brought back to Falmouth any time before the end of March .
will keep updated as sale progresses
Why are you concerned about distance, when it is essentially a coastal trip?
Apart from passages requiring watch keeping routines, its not much different, if you need too, break it up into short legs.

Absolutely right, if it's coastal the only difference is that the gap between take off & landing is longer. There are enough marinas/anchorages to stop if you'd prefer to avoid sailing in the dark. The only caveat might be arriving after dark into somewhere unfamiliar when extra care should be taken, especially if single handed...

Halcyon offer RYA instruction / qualification on self crewed deliveries which is appealing.

This is a good idea (as is a bit of shakedown sailing in the Solent first) as it should provide you with an experienced skipper/instructor to hold your hand, especially if s/he knows the various ports of refuge along the way even in the dark.

Assuming the shakedown sail reveals a sound boat and its gear, there's no reason why not to do the whole passage in one go offshore, or two if you like (say 24 hours IOW to Dartmouth/Brixham, then on from there).

Otherwise its a series of longer or shorter day-sails (longer ones in bold): Cowes - Studland - Weymouth/Portland - Dartmouth - Yealm/Plymouth - Fowey - Falmouth... which is more of a cruise than a delivery and would cost you more in time and skipper's fees.

Ping me if / when you're coming to Cowes to check it out ?

Konsort eminently suitable is it fin or twin keel? Would alwaysadvise a pro survey, which insurers will probably insist on anyway. Trip is straightforward enough once planning for tide gates and weather are taken into account and assuming (some) night sailing is OK Suggest Cowes to Poole/Studland, then from there direct to Dartmouth, passing 4mls offshore of portland Bill, finally Dartmouth to Falmouth or possibly another stop over in Fowey. A pro crew wouldl go non stop most likely and motorsail as needed for maintain a decent waterspeed.
