Dodgy looking P Bracket

Going to be viewing a potential yacht next week and noticed the P bracket looks like it has been repaired.
Any idea what has happened to it?
Assume it will need replacing....

What makes you think it has been repaired? Seems to be signs of failure of the sealant where it enters the hull, but that is not unusual. That type is usually bolted and bonded into a pocket in the hull. so if there are signs of movement the next thing to check is internally. Your surveyor will be able to tell you mote if you get that far. Can be expensive to fix depending on internal access.
 
The top of the bracket trailing edge that is dark red (not the white sealant), looks like it has had a chunk taken out of it, narrower than the rest of the bracket.
Maybe it was replaced and had to be reduced in size to fit.
Not seen that elsewhere or on any info on the net...have you?
 
Almost looks as if it has been lowered about 2 inches. Examination of the inside should give some clues.
Has it been repowered at sometime requiring the prop shaft angle to be altered.
Easier to add an inch or two to "P" bracket than major messing with engine bed mountings ?

Have in the past managed to bend a pretty substantial "P" bracket. **
Seriously bent, common wisdom was unrepairable and around £900 might solve the problem but a local marine shop soon sorted with gentle heat, a 50 ton press and £80.00.

** Err X 2 as a matter of interest, once impact with bottom and the other with a rope round the shaft.

If I were a gambling man, I’d put my money on it not being lowered; but the red tide line as being the same as the diameter of the roller used for the antifouling.

Doesn't look like that to me but I am not discounting it as a possible. However, that does not account for what appears to be a change in section at the two inches.
 
Seagull, as I am currently having a P bracket replaced after shearing the original one on my 1980 Fulmar. Thankfully it is covered by insurance but it will cost between £5,500 and £6,000 including lifts and storage.

If the P bracket does look suspect then either walk away or expect to buy the boat for well under market value. This I would consider to be an item picked up by a surveyor and he will probably confirm the above costs.
