Hello all,
I’m posting to ask for advice/resources for distilling my choice of boat from the squillions available.

I’m doing my homework right now to look for a suitable vessel as a full time live-aboard.

I’m looking for;
40-60ft LOA
Bridge clearance MUST be less than 59ft
Centre cockpit spacious aft owners cabin
W/ centreline island double bed

Short of traveling through every ad and ruling out contenders I’m wondering if there is a database available online somewhere to help narrow my choices a be able to make some blue water passages in a few years too.

When in the UK I’ll Be moored up in a Marina in the river Weaver and further downstream is the height restriction which means I must have an airdraft of no more than 59ft.

If anybody can off guidence it would be much appreciated ???

To get the best boat available you wouldn't consider moving the boat in the UK to a marina that doesn't have an air draft restriction?

I’ve been sifting though some more adverts and it seems that the best ‘compromise’ is to go for a yacht between 38-42ft to get the airdraft I’d need as the next nearest Marina would mean a 2 hour drive to get to Northwich to see Family etc.

Budget? New? Used? Turn key? Project? All mod cons? Basic?
There is just to many choices.
Go to yachtworld. Click on a few manufacturer names and put 40 to 60 ft in. Then start dreaming.
Benetea,
Try Moody, Westerly,
If budget is bigger try Amel
If I was just dreaming and money no object Swan not center cockpits though.
look at Brokers lists who specialise in blue water. J Rodriguez. I cant afford any but?

Bottom line is what I like and you like are likely to be very different. You need to look at lots. I would suggest chartering a couple just to get an idea what you like. or Don't.

We live just 5 months a year on our 38’ 3 cabin yacht. There is a 2 cabin version, but when we have guests in cabin 2, we use about 75% of the total volume of cabin 3 to stow our stuff which is usually spread across 2 cabins for ease of access.

Admittedly that includes folding bikes, a large bag with simple dive kit/wetsuits and a set of golf clubs, but every time we decide to remove something, another good idea fills its place!

I suggest you drop the idea of a single aft cabin with walk around bunk unless you have very few possessions!

That said we are 38’ - perhaps at 42’ you may have better stowage options - but don’t take your eye off how important that is.

I spent 5 years looking on Yachtworld.co.uk at newly listed boats fitting my search criteria which have me a good idea of what we wanted.

I created a list of preferences and populated a spreadsheet with possibles - the yacht we ended up with ticked more of those boxes than any other - and whilst there will always be compromises we have less than I ever imagined!

Cheers
Paul
