Can anyone recommend a charter company with yachts available in the Canaries?
Any thoughts on do's don'ts etc for a weeks charter? Best island to start from? Any info greatly appreciated.

try here
the pilot warns its windy at the ends of the islands particularly fuerteventura in the south tip its pretty storng all the time. The winds get funneleld between too. It can blow down from the mountains in the afternoons nothing to trouble if you are prepared and well found.

i think there may be some for charter on lanzarote too
flights available with thompson fly about 50-100 quid depending on when

As you have mentioned in certain areas there are wind exceleration zones, you can get and regularly do winds in excess of 40knts but the sea state is generally ok

Having said above there is some great sailing and good places to visit

Spent two weeks in Canaries Nov 05 and previously on Tall Ship Sir Winston Churchill in 1998. Sailing was good but we were often disappointed by the limited facilites for yachts.

La Gomera remains beautiful and still largely unspoilt
Personally wouldn't bother with Santa Cruz, Tenerife as fairly industrial and stark, not very attaractive landscape.
Las Palmas, Gran Canaria is a good place to start and is quite nice for a large city with a great market. There are some pretty, if slightly touristy places on South side of Gran Canaria like Puerto Mogan and Pasito Blanco but book ahead as spaces are very limited. Would recommend hiring a car for a day to drive to centre of GC which is quite dramatic

Also beware of anchoring as shelter is pretty poor most places and can lead to very bumpy nights!
No experience of charter I'm afraid.

Hiya, well I am totally biased because we live in Lanzarote! We picked this place for a reason though. We are away from the worst of the wind acceleration zones and the climate is generally dry. In a weeks cruise around here, you can visit the 2 Lanza marinas, the beautiful island of Graciosa to the north and Fuertaventura itself. Also there are good anchorages off the Papagayo beaches and the small island of Lobos.

Down in Rubicon, Sunsail have some 5 or 6 yachts. Here in Calero, there is a multi language Spanish charter company that have Bavarias of various sizes, Canarias yacht charter.com is splashed all over their booms. You could try them.

Feel free to PM if you have any other questions!

Oh, I have nothing to do with either company.
