Just viewed a cruising yacht broken in half in Braye Harbour Alderney. You may see it on ipcamlive.com the webcam that shows the harbour.
anyone know how it happened?
Braye is pretty exposed from that quadrant and I have always wondered how the boats one sees anchored or moored in the North - East sector manage. Even on the public moorings on the South side at the break water we have found it rather "lively" at times.
Pitching at a mooring in heavy weather exerts a heavy load on the lines and I have found that even with multiple lines the load is only ever taken by one line at a time. The result is that you simply lose one line at a time. We had to once abandon a mooring in the middle of the night when, during a storm, 2 out of 3 lines parted, one after the other.
