Y?

They are nice people, very easy to deal with, their policy reads well and their prices are very reasonable. They haven't been around that long, so there is limited experience of their performance when it comes to paying out, of course! I went to them from Pants and did subsequently wonder if I was going to regret it - keeping fingers crossed!

I've just changed to Y after many years with Nav & Gen. Very nice people and very efficient but as maby says, you will never know how good they are until you make a claim

Just moved my new boat to Y - very good service and price and they understand boating. I understand the boss is from a well established firm in marine insurance and he is highly regarded on here.

Due to a strange query on my application he phoned me personally.

+1 for everything that has been said. I switched this year following the extensive thread on here and a couple of months ago I had to make my first ever claim in around fifteen years of boat ownership. Not a big claim (dinged a prop) but the service was excellent. Very quick and efficient and nothing to suggest it would be any different with a larger amount. Plus point is no protected no claims issues....they took account of our maximum no claims discount when they first quote and that's it, never an increase in premium in the event of claims. A very happy customer :)

Just insured, they seem excellent in every respect.
Very easy to deal with, excellent terms and a good price.

+3 Preferred the policy structure and wording and they dealt easily with some specifics I wanted regarding single handing and extra equipment cover.

I've had a quote from Pantaenius which was £300 more than Y ...... seemed to be the same cover but without spending a week reading the small print of both ... what could be £300 better? Anyone swear by Pantaenius?

From memory, I think it's pretty much the same policy but if there's anything in the Y policy you need/want addressing, just speak to them and they'll be more than happy to discuss your requirements.

Those in the know seem to regard the Y policy as being as good as Pants. I guess the primary difference is Pants track record - they have been around a long time and have demonstrably settled some very big claims to the owner's satisfaction. The trouble with all threads of this type is that the only real deciding factor is how well the company behaves in the event of a major loss - and those do not happen very often.

We were with Pants and can confirm that they are polite and efficient at taking your money. So are Y - and they usually take a bit less of it. Neither has ever had to give us any money, so I cannot comment on how polite or efficient either would be if the need arose! :-)

Yes of course you're right. The proof of the pudding when it comes to how good an insurance co is can only be assessed when a claim is made. FWIW, Pants were about 50% higher than Y for my boat which is why I went for Y. IIRC Pants covered a bigger geographical area but that was of no use to me
