Hi
what do you think of how the X are built.

Not as well as their PR would suggest. I used to own one of the smaller models, an X-302. The boat had only done 4,000 miles, most of the time being sailed by SWMBO and I.

My pre-purchase survey found voids in the hull under the waterline which were repaired by the vendor.

The rudder started to split in two, and X-yachts couldn't care less, when I brought it to their attention.

The blue topsides went chalky after 5 years, I've noticed that other blue X yachts are very bad in this regard.

The engine was so jammed in you needed a mirror to replace the dipstick. You could have never bled the fuel system if the engine was hot without owning an asbestos shirt. Plus it was very noisy too.

Ergonomics are poor. On a reach, the mainsheet fouled the primary winches.
The head was so far under the cockpit it made it's use rather awkward for men. Sit where you can see the genoa tell tales and both your legs go to sleep.

To windward, it was quite the worst pounding boat I've ever sailed and that includes Dragons and similar metre boats.

X-Yachts saved money wherever they could. One 75ah battery to run the domestics, including an air cooled fridge! Crummy clutches that slipped under load. Head skin fittings so close together the sewage recycled! Cheapest fuses rather than circuit breakers.

You pays your money.....

In hindsight I wish I bought a Beneteau instead.

Granada 375

You posted request for info on Granada 375, I own the only one (I think) in the UK and have done for 7 years. Very solid Danish build, fantastic fast sea boat cruised from south coast to Scotland, Ireland and back as well as many times to France and Channel Islands. Full boat test in Yachting Monthly June 1989 on my boat so should be in the archives. Builder was Granada Yachts, Gesten, Denmark and imported by Scanyachts Hamble Point.
I have many pictures if you want to see her.
I hope this helps, let me know.
Regards, Charles
