I'm ashamed to admit I occasionally dredge the profanity-ridden bowels of Sailing Anarchy, but today found this gem. Despite growing up listening to the tales of old men in the RNR who did search and rescue during the Battle of Britain, I had never heard of the existence of rescue buoys in the Channel and Thames Estuary, brought into service by both sides, in an attempt to re-use the hard won skills of downed pilots. Apologies for the product placement in the video, but worth wading through the two mentions for a well researched and presented film.
