This weekend my 2 sons and myself had the good fortune to be Moored opposite a pretty good firework display. Went on for about half an hour.
The following day (sunday) we went fishing for a couple of hours and by luck rather than judgement a suicidal mackerel, distracted momentarily by something more interesting managed to fulfil it's death wish and leapt inadvertently onto our hook.
We had to go back home early for other commitments so called it a day at that.

Boat........................£40k ish
Divorce that ensued..£100k ish in assets
Diesel for the day......£ a tenner ish
Berthing fees.............£ twenty quiddish
Food etc......................£ditto
Sundry expenses.........£another twenty
total financial cost of a half pound mackerel......£70,035 per pound

My 7 year old son saying....'wow dad aren't boats great....you get free fireworks and a free fish too....................Priceless.

Needless to say, I did not wish to disillusion the little chap.....'yes son, they are great, next time maybe we will catch 2 fish'

Just thought I would share it.

That wasn't suicidal - we had one threw itself on the swim platform...

Priceless was also the kids complaining that we were only going to the boat for the weekend.

We were left with what we now call the FIC (fisherman's investment conundrum)...do we eat the little blighter (a bird in the hand) or do we use him as bait to try and catch THE BIG FISH that might not even be there (the 2 in the bush). Decided on the latter. weeeel you never know do you.
Wish they'd jump onto my swim platform.

Nope, it was the fireworks at Portchester Castle. Had a classical concert and fireworks sat night. Sat on the foredeck and watched em. Best seats in the house.

They were good weren't they? Bit worried at the amount of debris falling on the boat though!
